Zealous
Summary: Never let it be said that Wormwood doesn't do his job with zeal!
Disclaimer: I don't own Wormy. I don't own the show. I also don't own the word "zealous." :p
A/N: All right, it's time for my "Z" story! Haha. If you're unaware, I made it a mission to write a Sofia the First story for each letter of the alphabet (i.e.: "At First Sight," "Beyond," "Castle Fever," etc.). SO now I go to the very end of the alphabet for Wormy. ;) Enjoy!
Oh, that was it. He'd had it! Wormwood was done with nearly getting drooled on by the prince's overly excited dog, or being dragged into another "experiment testing" by Cedric, or whatever. He just needed a break! He always did his job with such zeal and fervor that he wondered why the same couldn't be said for those around him (namely a certain sorcerer who seemed to have completely forgotten their original mission…not that he was surprised, with Sofia weaseling her way into their lives and Cedric's heart). Was it too much to ask for the poor, underappreciated raven to get some peace and quiet to himself?
"Wormy!"
Apparently so… He glared in the direction of Cedric, who beckoned him over with one hand. Sighing, the raven obediently alighted onto his friend's shoulder.
"I have a surprise for you." He reached into a bag he'd brought in from his bedroom and held up a tiny box to the raven. "Happy Birthday, Wormy."
Wormwood's eyes widened. Wait, it was his birthday? He counted back the dates in his head and blinked, realizing Cedric was right. As the sorcerer placed his gift on the table, Wormwood hopped onto it and tilted his head, wondering what may be inside.
"Now if you don't like it, that's fine. But don't be too mean about it." Cedric smiled at his longtime friend. "Words hurt, you know…not that you really say much being a raven and everything."
The raven rolled his eyes. "If you only knew," he mumbled under his breath. He then turned his attention back to the decorative box and used one talon to pull off the ribbon and lift the box lid. He pulled out what appeared to be a very small gold pendant on a matching gold chain that had his and Cedric's photo etched into it. Wormwood took a minute to observe the gift before looking up at his master in surprise.
"I know… Perhaps I should have gone with silver instead of gold." He shrugged before realizing Wormwood was on his shoulder once more, and this time he received a small nuzzle of gratitude. He laughed. "You like it then, I take it?" Hearing a caw, Cedric nodded and put the chain around his friend's neck. "That way, if you ever get lost, people know you belong here with me."
"Like I'd ever get lost," Wormwood retaliated with a proud smile. "Um…thanks, Cedric."
And so now…Wormwood had a new reason to conduct his daily mission with zeal. He finally got the physical award of appreciation to show for it, and boy, was it shiny!
The end
A/N: Yes, it's super short. Lol. Sorry! But I cracked up writing the last line. I think it's time to go to bed now… I've had videos playing in the background about how to make the perfect steak (and now I'm hungry) and then they'd switch to Steve Harvey videos… So now I'm sleepy, hungry, and amused. Perfect. :P Good night, everyone! And Happy Easter!
