Mourning a Lie

In truth, he bids farewell to new friends. In a lie, he mourns for the comrades who forgot him.

Through eyes that were not really his own...

He could see them. They were there. All of them.
They were all safe...unharmed...alright...real.

And they had never known him.

In the background is a voice that is not really his own; a voice that is not in his control.

He hears words he does not want to say; he does not wish to say goodbye. He wants to cry out, to plead.

He wants them to remember him for who he is.

He wants the lie back.

They are talking now.

They speak to the one who is not really him, exchange information with someone whose name is not exactly his.

The voice that is not his to control answers, and they talk like they will be great friends some day.

It's not fair, he shouts. Those are my friends. Not yours.
Give back my friends...I want them back...

Give them back!

No one hears his protests or his shouts. They keep talking like they do not know he is there.

As though he never were there to begin with.

...this is the truth...

But he wants the lie back.

He screams again, shouting for whoever pulled this sadistic prank on him. He demands for his lie back. He demands for his peace, his happiness, his friends...

He goes unheard...

So this is the truth...

...he never won any Struggle match...he never attended one...

...he never had three best friends called Hayner, Pence and Olette...he had never met them...

...he never lived in Twilight Town, never flew through her quiet streets on a skateboard, never ran errands for others to earn munny for a beach trip...he had never been to Twilight Town...

...he never really existed...he had never meant to be...

A lie. A beautiful lie that he could have lived forever with no regrets...

...gone.

He wants the lie back.

He begs and pleads as his heart breaks, wishing for his lie back.

It never comes, his wish never fulfilled.

He, too, is a lie.

Nothing but a lie...

A single tear rolls down Sora's cheek, so suddenly that he is not quick enough to catch it before it falls.

The truth is, he does not know why it's there.

The lie is, someone he once was - someone who is now a missing part of his soul - is howling with mad grief as he mourns for what he can never take back.
