I guess I don't really know when they started… That is the dreams, of course. I've had them for as long as I can remember, maybe longer. I hate it. Knowing what is going to happen…having the fate of someone rest on your shoulders.

It was about eight years ago. I was a little seven year old girl, a maid in the palace in Tulin. Tulin is the central city of Mirah. King Endalin had the throne then. He was a strong and wise king, always fair, always kind. He had made peace with the elves and dwarves. They even came into our cities every now and then.

One night, as I lay sleeping, I saw in my dream a man. He was tall and clad in black. His face was a twisted cold mass of evil. Next I saw the King and Queen lying dead in there beds. I jerked awake. Before I even had time to think the palace was in an uproar. I couldn't believe it. I ran downstairs when it struck me. What happened to the prince? I made my way back up the stairs to his room. No one was with him when I arrived. He looked confused and maybe even scared. I told him all I knew. His eyes became wet with his tears and his face distorted with anger. Shaking I bowed at his feet.

"Everything is going to be alright" I whispered, "But Majesty please I beg my pardon, You must escape!"

He gave me an odd little look.

Then gravely he replied back "It's too late."

"No!" I screeched. "You mustn't talk like that! Please you Majesty! Do not loose all hope!"

I grabbed his hand. "Please! Follow me!"

I begin to run dragging him behind me. I ran down the winding staircase and through the great hall till I came to the kitchen where there was a side door that led to the stables. I quickly grabbed a loaf of bread and filled a small canteen with water.

"You're on your own from here" I whispered handing him the small fragments. "Godspeed."

"Thank you" he whispered walking out the door.

I stood and watched as he ran into the darkness. The palace was still chaotic. I turned around and to my surprise stood the tall dark man from my dreams. He smacked me hard across the face. It drew blood. My eyes swelled with tears. I'd never been so afraid in my life.
