Korra sat atop a large boulder outside of Aang Memorial Island. She'd dealt with so much. The death of Tarrlok and Amon had taken its tol on her. After defeating: Unaloq, Zaheer, and Kuvira, no one else seemed worthy of her battle. However, since his death, Korra was at ease. The world was at peace, and she could be a normal bender (as normal as the avatar could be). She'd taken a ladies trip with Asami to Omashu, and after that, she, Bolin and Mako went to Zhao Fu to hang out with the Bei Fong family. Everything numbed her fear of that man…. That man with the mask.
Korra had taken intense therapy under Katara in hopes of getting over her fear. Ever since she first met Amon face to face in this very spot she'd been terrified to return. She remembered everything. His touch, his heat, and the pain he shot through her body. Katara recited a chant that Korra repetitively muttered when scared, "On the other side of every fear is freedom." It'd helped her through all these years. Now, finally she'd returned to this place, to fully deal with her phobia. She thought, "Why not? Amon is dead."
Korra had changed over the years. Her once short hair was now long and tied back in a tight braid. She kept her tomboyish attire; however, Tahno had crafted a betrothal necklace for her and her father accepted without her approval. But Korra didn't care, She was happy that at least she'd be safe and Tahno had mellowed down from his once aggressively flamboyant self. He was funny and charming in a way.
Korra under Aang's statue, looking back one last time as the moon faded to darkness.
"This is it… the ambush." Korra cradled her arms as she shut her eyes tightly. "You're safe now, Korra. The past can't hurt you." She opened her eyes as she used her firebending to light the candles. As she prayed silently to Aang she let out a small sigh. "On the other side of every fear is freedom." She smiled, her fears leaving her. As Korra turned around to leave the masked man was in front of her.
"No, young avatar, at the end of fear, is oblivion." Amon pinched her cheeks together, fear paralyzed Korra as Amon raised his mask, revealing his soft thick lips. He kissed her passionately. Forcing her to the ground as Korra tried to bend Amon jabbed every pressure point in her body.
"Please, NO!" Korra yelled, pushing Amon away as he bit her neck.
"You really thought an explosion would kill me? I'm insulted." He said with coy playfulness. "But I'm not the type to take something as precious as your body by force avatar. No, I'll have it all in due time.
Amon groped Korra's neck, her eyes rotating and pulsing in fear. Pain surged through as her veins twisted and popped. Finally, her worst fear was coming true. She was going to be killed by her most feared enemy. Before everything faded to black, Korra watched as Amon opened the doors and the moons light wadded in.
"See you soon, avatar." His sharp eyes watching her; and then, darkness.
Korra awoke in Air temple island with Asami, Jinora, and Pema staring sadly at her.
"You're awake! Jinora yelled, seeing Korra sit up slightly.
"Korra wiped her eyes and was about to wipe her neck, however, gauze was wrapped around it.
"… Give me a mirror." Korra demanded, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I don't think that's-" Pema interjected.
"Give me a fucking mirror!" Korra spat. Asami grabbed one from the dresser as Korra unraveled the gauze. There in her skin, was a carved betrothal necklace with Amon's equality mask symbol.
"I'm his…" Korra cried before sobbing uncontrollably. With the help of Pema and Jinora (and several guards) Korra cried to sleep. Amon's image imprinted in her dreams.
