Jack doesn't think he's ever felt this stupid (and he's done a lot of stupid things in his time) as he stands behind an elderly lady in a queue at one of Cardiff's many bookstores. A 'Teach Yourself Welsh' book lies clenched tightly in his right hand, carefully positioned so that any passer-by wouldn't be able to read the cover. Not that he's embarrassed by the book, 'course not…well, maybe a bit.
The woman in front of him finally finishes paying for her books and shuffles off towards the exit. Jack cautiously steps towards the spotty teenager behind the counter, casually looking away as he hands the book over, trying to give the impression that he doesn't care about the book at all, rather it's a present for someone or…something. Not that Captain Jack Harkness is embarrassed by the book or anything. No, 'course not.
He makes his way out of the bookshop as fast as he possibly can while trying to look nonchalant and heads towards Torchwood, tucking the small plastic bag into his coat on the way. It's all Ianto's fault of course (well, not directly, but it makes Jack's ego feel a little bit better if he blames it on someone). He thought he'd try to brush up on his (non existent) Welsh skills for Valentine's Day, you know, give Ianto a little surprise 'cause he's always going on about his lack of Welsh. Not that Jack's a romantic or anything, there's no time for love in the century when everything changes…oh, who is he kidding? Jack wants to make Ianto happy and if that involves damaging his ego considerably and teaching himself a couple of words of Welsh then so be it! 'Cause Ianto was worth it - 100.
