2012.

Synopsys: The Earth is doomed, not by me but the humans themselves, all I had to do to prove my worthiness as an Invader was to conquer the planet, to enslave the inhabitants or better yet, to exterminate them in the name of the Irken Empire; it turns out all I had to do was wait.

Author Notes: Well we all know that according to the Mayan calender which ends in the year 2012, that the world will come to an end, of course that is the interepretation made by some believers, nevertheless that got me wondering what if Zim's chance to prove the COULD be of worth to the Empire was taken away from him? And this little baby was born.

Disclaimer: As always I don't known Invader Zim, Jhonen Vasquez does and I'm kinda glad I don't own it, I don't think I could ever create anything that compares to Jhonen's work anyway.

That being said, I'm just another follower of his creative madness.

"It´s over."

A mushroom cloud could be seen in the distance.

"The Earth was doomed."

Membrane labs failed miserably, collapsing under it's own weight.

"I was wasting my ingenious time."

The sky turned from red to grey... then slowly darkeness reigned... the sun was slowly disappearing.

"I was supposed to rain doom down of the pitiful Earthlings!" Zim bellowed angrily "This wasn't supposed to happen!"

Dib was no where to be found... so Zim could only assume that his old enemy had been crushed along with the countless others across the devastated landscape.

"The Dib-Stink was supposed to be doomed at my hands!"

To the Invader, it was an insult to injury.

"Killing the large headed human would have been my greatest victory."

So many people were running away in fear, "from what? Who knows?... All I know is that they aren't running from me!"

That stung.

"Zim was supposed to bring them the feeling of despair." The Irken thought in grief. "It was the whole Pee- Pee thing all over again."

Only much, much worse.

The Irken was watching the planet's downfall from his space station, cameras showing countless civilizations crumbling, people dying, animals trying to save themselves."

But to no avail.

He saw the sight bellow with mixed feelings, in awe the massive devastation but at the same time feeling a sense of failure.

"After all Zim did not cause this."

Gir was watching the TV, just static, he was oblivious to his master's depression.

MiniMoose didn't even acknowledge his surroundings, he just existed, didn't think, didn't speak.

"He was no longer a sentient piece of Irken tech, in fact he was just mindless now."

Apparently whatever problems arose on Earth, machines got affected as well.

Gir was lucky for he was already broken.

"I was on this horrible dirt ball for many years, six years!" Zim thought angrily "And never did I gave up on my mission!"

He hated everything about the doomed little blue marble; When not plotting destruction, Zim used to pass the time daydreaming ,causing the humans unspeakable terror, destroying their home world and being the best invader he cobviously was.

But that could never happen now.

His destiny was taken away from him.

"By the same species I was trying to conquer no less!"

Zim watched the cameras he planted all over the Earth, he just didn't know how it all began, it just did.

At the stroke of Midnight.

It was late at night or early morning; whichever way people saw fit.

Zim was planning to go to Dib's house with the INGENIOUS plan to switch his enemy's brain with that of a squirrel so he could finally have the annoying human out of his way for good.

Then everythingtook a turn for the worse.

It began with an earthquake which destroyed half the city, Zim of course survived thanks to his migthy Irken technology, which couldn't be said the same for the humans, at first the little Irken laughed evilly, pleased with the high death toll.

But it didn't end there.

"The weather soon followed suit; It began to rain Cats and Dogs as humans used to say." Zim thought "Speaking of which, the animals these hairless mokeys kept as companions turned on them, and me."

He was still a bit spooked by the pack of dogs that chased him all the way to his base, blood in their eyes as if ready to kill and eat his remains.

"The moment I closed the door I felt safe... The feeling didn't last long... Coming home was nothing short of a horrible mistake."

His base attacked him, some Earth virus managed to get into his computer's brain and it was causing mayhem unlike anything he's ever experienced or handed out.

And that was saying something.

The robo-parents tried to kill him, the Invader lost his arm that day.

Zim looked down at his robotic arm and brought it near his face, inspecting it, almost as if he expected for it to go crazy and start choking him.

"By now that would be a blessing."

It would have been better than the disgrace of returning to Irk and infor his superiors that he failed to destroy his assigned world.

Normally when one loses an arm, the logical thing to do was to run away for his life, but we all know Zim and he was a stubborn little creature, he refuses to let his base be under the control of something as pathetic as a human made virus, so he tried to get to the elevator, again; that was yet another error.

The elevator got stuck half way there.

He screamed for help.

"Help that never came."

So he had to rely on himself to be free, using his PAK, blasting his way out.

Zim had lost a lot of blood but he refused to give up.

"Invaders never give up."

He was going down into the main system core. This much trouble with the security can only mean a defective artificial intelligence brain.

Replacing it was the logical thing two do."

Ironically it was the S.I.R Unit's impresionable mind that saved Zim; he was somehow unaffected by whatever was making all technology going haywire.

Gir simply began to suck on beam of energy coming out of two tubes, thinking that the electricity from it would get him high.

He had watched a lot of TV earlier that day which gave him such a ludicrous idea in the first place.

Zim tore down one of the mechanical arms that assaulted him and after a few minutes he attached it to himself, replacing his once fleshy forearm.

After that he got to work, he replaced the damaged AI brain with a new one, sticking the new AI brain in the slot where the old one was and presses a few buttons. Beams of light shoot from the AI brain and electricity is charged from tubes throughout the main system core.

However nothinmg was fixed.

Zim had no choice but to abandon the base, taking Gir and MiniMoose to the voot cruiser and they flew to safer location, he was going to build a new base and leave no traces of the old base.

He blew up his former home, leaving a crater amoung many.

After that he began searching for a new place to set a base of operations.

But everywhere he looked; chaos reigns supreme.

"This will not stop me from causing destruction upon the humans the right way!"

Gir was singing the doom song, unaware that it was hardly the time or place.

"Doom, doom, doom doom, doom, doom, doomy doom, doom, doomy, doom, doomy doom."

"GIR! STOP THAT INFERNAL SINGING!"

"I don't wanna!" The Robot cried out , then he salutes and goes into duty mode "... Ok!"

"How is this possible!" Zim mused "Has the world gone mad?!"

"Looks like it!"Gir said happily.

"Squeak" MiniMoose agreed.

Zim growled in annoyance.

"My only form of information is gone... All I can do now is... ugh... find the Dib Human... Maybe he can explain what's causing all this doom... He just has to be alive... somwhere."

To his great despair, the found his enemy.

Along with his family's... under a pile of rublble.

Zim made a fist "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!"

He looked up at the skies and bellowed like a madman "WHO DARES DEPRIVE ZIM OF DESTROYING MY ENEMY... OF DESTROYING THIS WORLD!"

He looked down at his young adversary, and almost vomited, his eyes were gone, he could see rats starting to eat his flesh and he now could see his heart, it was a sickening sight.

One Zim could not stand to watch.

"You deserved at better death Dib-human... a death by my hands."

Zim nay have hated the human but seeing his corpse like this did not bring even a psychotic smile to his green face.

Zim took off his disguise; he was confident no one would see him now, he kneeled down and stared coldly at his deceased foe.

"you had this coming you know?"

Dib said nothing, he couldn't say anything annoying nor or ever.

All he would be able to do now was rot away.

"I hate you... I dunno how Dib-stink but I know you had something to do with this!"

Zim made a movement with his hand to signal his surroundings "YOU DID THIS!"

Dib's corpse still said nothing. For some reason the alien thought the dead was mocking him.

"You were suppose to protect this world from me not annihilate it!"

A rat licked his red fingers.

Zim in a moment of anger kicked the body "DAMN YOU DIB- HUMAN, DAMN YOU AND THE REST OF YOUR SPECIES TO HELL!"

The rats ran away in fear.

He looked down at the other two corpses ans sneered "I suppose its fitting that you died with your father unit and scary sister"

Zim wanted one answer and the one person who could provide it was no longer alive... he just asked the question anyway as if believing Dib would go "A-HA!" at any given minute.

"Why?"

Once he was in his space station Zim got an answer.

But not the one he wanted.

Dib was not responsible for the Earth's downfall.

Apparently the computer that stored Earth data that Zim found useless finally came in hand and told the invader everything.

2012 was the year the planet was going to be destroyed... almost like it was suppose to happen.

Zim could not believe it, all he had to do was wait for the humans to cause their own doom, everything he put effort in his past plans was for naught.

Zim felt horrible, not because the planet that he lived on was dying slowly but because he thought "I'm not an invader"

Invaders were suppose to do the job in taking a planet down not waiting for that to happen.

Zim felt that his mission was taken away from him.

"By the same species that I tried to conquer"

And that was what made the whole time on Earth pointless.

He could not go back to Irk; he was not going to take credit for something he didn't do.

Zim had his pride.

And that was the only thing he had now.

The Irken just looked down on Earth.

"What did I ever do to lose my honor?.

That day, November 21, 2012 was the day Zim did NOT conquer Earth.

It was moments like these that his self-destruct button could still work.

But if this whole experience taught him anything was that fixing anything near Earth was not going to work out.

"What a waste of good doom."

Well watcha think? Feel sorry for Zim or for the human race?
