"I need your help," she had said.
This was surprising in and of itself. Who had ever heard of a Jellicle coming to him, of all cats, for help?
But she begged, and she pleaded. Her big green eyes so full of trust, of need. Her silver tom, so used to being the hero, was becoming bored with his safe and happy golden queen. She wasn't exciting any more.
"He's going to betray me for some other queen," she said, her tone barely betraying the anger glimmering in her eyes. "I can't stand the thought of that. I won't let it happen."
He made the proper condolences, and she took the bait.
"I need him to rescue me. That's the only way to keep his interest," she said, her voice becoming desperate.
He liked that desperation, and found his lips curling into a cruel smile.
It was an interesting proposition, to say the least. After all, who could say no to giving them both what they wanted?
