No one can really appreciate how hard it is for purebloods going to a mixed school like Hogwarts like Vincent Crabbe can.
Raised as an only child (he used to have a sister, there was an accident, he doesn't like to talk about it), his father made sure his exposure to the world consisted of purebloods are supreme and Muggleborns are less than centaurs. His mother (who was actually had a Muggleborn mother but her father was still a Yaxley) was slightly more relaxed in his upbringing, and he found a strong passion in cooking and creating.
For Vince, Christmas was simply a time of decorating a tree, and on the morning of the twenty-fifth there were presents for him from his parents and relatives, and his mother would always take him to Diagon Alley so he could get a present for his father. He never did the same for her, but she didn't seem to mind.
He didn't know what was so special that day, and as a child he wasn't going to complain about a day of getting presents, what child would?
Imagine his surprise in his first year of school when he starts hearing the Muggleborn things talk excitedly about some big man in a red suit who delivers presents because he apparates to every living room in the world at a rate that seemed to impossible for Vince to believe.
And then he hears others talking about a Jeez Us (what was that? Could it hurt him?) and it's about giving not receiving and other nonsense. Christmas was always about getting presents! Although this year he would finally have a chance to get something for his mother, so he sort of understood the giving part.
He was still startled when, on the train ride back to King's Cross for his first Christmas Holidays as a Slytherin (his family would be very proud of him), a seventh year Ravenclaw student burst into their compartment and threw candy canes on them all, shouting HO HO HO (now what was that?!).
Tracey was the only one who seemed to enjoy that. She tried explaining to the rest of her friends what a Santa Claus was, but no one seemed to get it. When he visited Tracey on the twenty-sixth, Vince was even more taken aback with a plastic light up structure of a Santa Claus figure in a roofless carriage of some kind being pulled by eight reindeer.
(What?)
