My mother never talked about my father much, only that he was, or had been, a Marine. I was told the reason why she never contacted him about me because she knew what had happened to his first wife and daughter, and she didn't know how he would feel, so, she never tried, that and due to the fact that she was in the Navy and she was almost always working or deployed, so she didn't have much time.
When she was deployed, my three brothers and I were sent to live with our grandparents, a former schoolteacher and a retired Marine General in our hometown. I was born in 1993 and I am almost 24 years old and I have an almost 5-year-old son and a 9-month old daughter, and I got married when I was 18 years old.
I tried to avoid a man in uniform, as I knew how the life was, being a military brat and all, but fate had other plans for me when it brought me a Marine in the form of Nicholas Holden and he recently died last month and was buried over in Arlington. He had left to go overseas when our daughter was 4 months old. The Marine Corps hadn't told me much about what happened to him, but just that he had died, and that his MWD, A German Shepherd named Diomedes had been injured, and was no longer able to perform, so they gave him back to me.
I hadn't had much help other than my grandparents and my sister-in-law, Albany, whom was married to Nick's brother, Killian, who was also a Marine, whom was overseas, not to mention my best friend and future sister-in-law, Waverly, who was soon to marry one of my older brothers, Alexander.
They had always been a huge help to me, at least when they were in the area. But now, I had to get off this base, I didn't want to live here anymore, and I knew that I had a year left before I had to move, but I wanted to move back to my hometown of New Hope, PA, to be closer to my grandparents and the rest of my family.
I may be looking for a Beta Reader on this story, or a Co-Writer, I'm not sure just yet, I not sure how to exactly pinpoint Gibbs's character, but I'm willing to accept any advice or help, if you could PM me.
