THE TREEHOUSE
The Doctor gazed down at the blueprints and smiled. The kids would love this. An endless realm of fun aloft in a tree overlooking the pool. Perhaps he should add a slide? Oh yes, that would be perfect.
He could see it now, the children would run into the back yard to see that he had placed a mysterious box in their favorite tree. 'Whatever could that be for?' they'd wonder. Then they'd start to climb up the steps he would carefully design (He still couldn't decide between an old-fashioned rope ladder and a spiral staircase. Rose would say the staircase was safer, but, where would be the fun in that?). Their hearts would race as they thought up all the possibilities as to what the box could mean, and then... as they opened the doors, the very thing they never could've dreamt of would appear. Their very own-
"What's this?" Rose asked. She had snuck up behind him, as usual, and was looking over his shoulder at the sketch.
"Plans!" the Doctor replied, snatching the paper and hiding it behind his back. "It's a surprise for the kids."
"That's sweet. Can I see?"
He shook his head. "I'd rather you didn't. It's not finished, just yet."
Rose smiled and leaned in as if she was going to kiss him, but instead pried the sheet from his hands. "Ooh, you're going to build them a mansion?" she asked as she examined the drawing. "Isn't it a bit early for that?"
"Not at all. It's a treehouse. Every kid should have the chance to play in a treehouse."
"A treehouse? This would never fit in a tree!"
The Doctor furrowed his brow and stood to look over her shoulder. "Yes it would!" he insisted. "Look, the plans for the exterior are on the next page."
Rose flipped the page and a knot formed in her stomach. The exterior was about three meters tall and one meter wide on each of its four sides. "Doctor, this is-"
"To think you've forgotten about dimensionally transcendental engineering so soon (Oh, and I insist we paint it blue)! There will be a slide to the pool coming out the other side of the box, as well. I haven't had the chance to sketch it in yet, but on the interior plans... are you okay?" The Doctor paused and looked worriedly at Rose, whose eyes were tearing up.
"I'm fine, I just..." She looked up into his eyes and a smile slowly appeared on her face. "Doctor, this is beautiful!"
She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him on the cheek, smearing a few tears on his face. There was a moment of happy silence, and then, "Er, just one question. How will we find the kids in time for supper?"
