Lady and the Tramp ~ Part one
Author: Luckybug
Rating: PG
Note: This first part is a sort of re-written ending to "Mended Fences" that I have come up with. The parents are visiting and Juliette's mom (Mrs. Rowe, now that she's been married for the fifth time) dislikes Auggie and his parents, while Auggie's parents adore Juliette, who has been eating a lot at the dinner (mostly Mrs. Ciceros's home cooking)
"Mmm, everything you made was wonderful, Mrs. Ciceros," Juliette said happily, wiping her mouth with her napkin.
Auggie's mother smiled. "Why thank you, Juliette. Did you have enough to eat? You want more?"
Juliette glanced at her own mother, who was scowling. "No, thank you." After a moment, Juliette stood up. "Excuse me," she said quietly. "I'll be right back."
"Where you going, Jules?" Auggie asked her, but Juliette had run out in too much of a hurry to hear him.
Juliette's mother sniffed. "I certainly didn't teach her to use such bad manners," she said pointedly.
Auggie's blood started to boil as he listened to what that horrible woman was saying. But he couldn't get angry now, he had to go get Juliette. He had a pretty good idea where she went.
Before he could move an inch, though, his mother asked him, "Is Juliette alright? She seemed upset."
Auggie jumped up from his chair. "I gotta find her, " he said. "Before..." he trailed off.
Auggie's mother looked even more concerned now. "Before what, Auggusto?"
Auggie took a deep breath. "Momma, you don't know why Juliette's in here, do you?"
"No you never said. I didn't want to ask."
"Momma, Juliette's bulimic." Auggie rested his hand on his mother's shoulder for a second before taking off to find Jules.
When he approached the girls' dorm, a digusted Shelby was stalking out of it. "You think you could ask Queenie to give me some warning before she starts barfing?" She said, and smirked in passing.
Auggie ran inside and found Jules in the bathroom, kneeling in front of the toilet inside one of the stalls. He tried the door, but it was locked. "Jules?" he asked.
He heard the flushing of the toilet, then the door opened.
Juliette's face was tearstained and her eyes were red from crying. She was silent as she brushed her teeth at the sink.
"Jules, what happened? You been doing so good. You gotta stop lettn' your momma mess with your head."
Juliette peered at her reflection in the mirror. "My mother thinks I'm overweight and ugly," she said as she splashed some cold water on her face and dried off with a fluffy purple towel.
Auggie wrapped his arms around Juliette. "She's wrong. You're always beautiful. Even when you're clinging to a toilet bowl puking your guts out."
Surprisingly, Juliette laughed.
"Seriously though, Jules. You're perfect just the way you are. Don't you go listenin' to what your momma says, you got me?"
"We should probably be getting back now before someone comes looking for us."
"Yeah."
They started walking back to the lodge, hand in hand.
