I have no words, it just kind of hit me. And I hadn't posted anything in a few days. So I give you, this.

The sound of her high heels on the tile floor echoed down the hallway of the City of New York Crime Lab. Her hand trailed through her thick mess of curls and she wiped her sweaty palms on the legs of her slacks. Her mind was racing as fast as her heart rate and she had no idea if what she was planning to do was brilliant or completely stupid. Probably the latter, but she could not be swayed from her decision. She was tired of the push-and-pull, the constant tug of war of emotions between her and him.

Something had to change before she lost her mind.

She cursed under her breath at the emotions he evoked in her. Lord only knows how long she had fought her feelings for her boss, her partner, her best friend. She walked a straight line from one end of the hallway to the other, trying to talk herself out of it. So many things were at stake; their friendship, their jobs, everything she's ever held dear.

"I love him." She whispered and those words out weighed everything.

She pulled open the heavy glass door to his office and stepped inside, he was standing while talking on the phone, but ended the conversation when he saw the look on her face. When the receiver was placed back in the base, she spoke with a shaky voice, "Do you ever feel like your life is a game of chess?"

He stared at her momentarily, "I've never really considered it, but sure, I can see that."

"You've used all your pawns, backed into a corner and you have one move to make before your in checkmate. That single move could win you the game or cost you everything." She inched closer to him, her hands shaking.

"Right." He nodded slowly, "It all comes down to if you're willing to make the move and risk it all."

They stood toe-to-toe in the glass shoebox he called an office and she chewed on her lip, eyes drifting from his face to her shoes, "I want to make a move. I want to risk everything. I just wish I could know for certain I'd win the game."

"There's a chance in every move you make." He reached out to tuck a curl behind her ear, "Is what you want worth the risk?"

"It's worth everything." She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his. He stood momentarily shocked before wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer. Her arms locked around his neck. The kiss seemed to last forever and end far too soon. She pulled away and their lips parted with a pop, "Did I make the right move?"

He nodded, kissing her again before he spoke, "We're worth the risk."
