A/N: I wrote this while listening to 'Skinny Love' by Birdy. And this is a one shot. I had thought about adding something similar to my story 'Keep Saving Me' as a memory of Elena's in her relationship with Kol. But I'll decide more on that, suggestions would be a great help. I hope you guys enjoy this one shot, and as a disclaimer: I do not own anything of The Vampire Diaries.
Doe brown eyes stared deeply into their reflection, following the invisible traces of her dried up tears. Her brown hair curled wildly down her back and crashed over her shoulders like waves. Eyes flickered weakly and blankly over her dress clad figure. Her thoughts were taken over by the thoughts of him. He was very much the devil with the wicked grin that continued to draw her in and bring her down with weakened knees. Her olive skin was pale and seemingly drained of its lively color. She tried to keep her eyes away from her neck, but they went to glance upon the torn and punctured skin, where blood had clotted and dried around the wound. She didn't know why she put up with him and his rages. The pain tugged at her heartstrings as if it were just an instrument to be played. She had begged him to let her go, countless times. Even his brother Elijah and sister Rebekah have tried to get Elena away from their impulsive brother. As they begun to see how Kol became drowned in his hatred and vengeance against their older brother Klaus and one Damon Salvatore. Elena didn't know what had happened. They were happy together. Everything had once been so perfect with one another. But now, looking back on their relationship, it just seemed like a game...a lie. Every morning she had woken up to him peppering kisses across her face and loving her as if she were a goddess. She still wakes up to him, but it was different now. He wasted everything, his love that he once showered upon her was now thrown into his unfinished business with Klaus and Damon. She told him to be patient, and it would be fine. She told him to be balanced, like he once was. But the one she was in love with was gone. She shouldered a overnight bag as she glanced at the clock, recognizing that he'd be home soon. She walked over to his side of the bed, placing a card onto his pillow before leaving the house with Rebekah.
Kol came back long after Rebekah and Elena drove out of town. His dark eyes searching for his wife with a vigor, hoping to have seen her waiting for him like she had always done before. A frown drifted upon his lips when his wife was nowhere in sight, but a lone card laying upon his pillow. His heart gave an ugly lurch in his chest as he picked it up, seeing her familiar handwriting addressing him.
"Kol -
Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?
Love,
Elena"
