Hello everyone I have a new challenge that can work for pretty much any of the yugioh series but in my mind works best for the original.

Just about all of the series falls back on faith and destiny. We normally have a characters that fight against them but ultimately in the yugioh universe destiny normally comes out on top. Now normally this is a good thing for our main characters since usually they have to combat what a prophecy dictates as evil.

But what if we followed a character that constantly fought against destiny. Not really a villain, hero, or even anti-hero so much as someone who is on his own side period. Someone who would try to stand up against destiny and while would get in the main hero's way not do it in a spiteful way so much as he or she is doing what they think is right for from an outside point of view.

While a lot of villains in yugioh are just evil because they're evil with only the lesser villains really having a reason that doesn't make them assholes normally. Seasons one to four of the anime are perfect examples of this. Pegasus just wanted his wife back, Marik doesn't want to worship someone who has been dead for millions of years before he goes crazy and tries to take over the world and then have an even crazier part of him come out, and all three of the bikers were just doing what they felt was right or because they had no other options. After that for the most part we are left with evil for the sake of evil.

Which is why I thought it would be interesting to have an OC go through the original story as a sort of third party sometimes siding with or against Yugi and the gang. And yes I realize that for a large part this is what Kaiba is supposed to be in addition to being Yugi's rival but I feel like what they did with him in season five was to little for his character. Please realize I consider Kaiba and his past life two different people. Are they spiritually the same person? Yes but that is pretty much where it ends. In my mind they might as well be brothers separated by time by how different they act. The modern Seto is proud to a fault and only shows respect to others who really earn it and even then that doesn't mean that he gets along with you. The Seto from the past shows respect to just about everyone unless you spit him and constantly takes a back seat to Yugi and his friends something the modern Seto wouldn't do unless he was forced to against his will or couldn't stop it. A perfect example of this is the duel against Nowa. If Kaiba wasn't turned to a statue and Yugi still tried to take over the duel he would have told him to shut up and sit down and that he'll deal with him personally as soon as he's done beating Nowa into the dirt. I realize that Yugi wouldn't step into Kaiba's duel like that if Kaiba was still able to go on simply because while Kaiba rarely shows respect towards Yugi that doesn't work both ways. Yugi constantly treats Kaiba as if he were a friend and holds him in high regard even though he rarely gets anything from Kaiba beyond a off handed compliment.

But I'm getting off topic. The point is saying it's destiny is a very weak point to most people in real life and I wish that the show did that with more than just Kaiba. I'm by no means saying make another Kaiba so much as I'm saying is make a third outside party that isn't swayed by saying everything someone is doing is evil. Though I guess you could say that Yami Bakura was a third party but I think you get what I'm trying to get across.

Have fun with the challenge and I look forward to reading any stories anyone makes involving the idea.
