Eeyep. Another time gap! YAY! I have good reason though! I'm basically doing a request for SarahMatrix04, so that's why there's another time gap! Enjoy! POTA or the name Cosette does not belong to me! Interestingly enough, when I was writing this, I was listening to "Noble Maiden Fair" the song that appears in the movie "Brave" If you haven't listened to this song yet, I highly recommend it. It's such a sweet, loving song. I may use it again in another one shot with Cosette and Caesar. She's about fourteen in this. It also takes place during Battle.
"Cosette?"
"Hm?"
"How did you learn to sing like that?"
"Sing like what?"
"How you are now. You obviously got it somewhere."
"Well, Father, I believe I learned it from you!"
"Me?!"
"Yes."
"Cosette, I hardly even hum anymore, where did you get that notion?"
"Father, don't you remember when I was two, I had that nightmare and you came to me and sang me that lullaby. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Just a few nights ago, I sang it to Cornelius, who had a nightmare."
"Actually, I do remember that night, but I swear you didn't get it from me."
"Father, I often picked up on you humming or singing under your breath and I often tried imitating in my own way. So yes, in a way I did get it from you."
*Flashback*
Once more, the two year had been woken by a nightmare, screaming for either her mother or father. It was Caesar who awoke first, reassuring his wife, that he'd take care of it. All children at this age have nightmares. Cosette had taken to sitting in the middle of the bed, and wrapping herself in the blanket. Only her head poked out, as Caesar walked into her bedroom. "Another nightmare?" Caesar inquired. Cosette nodded. "Do you want to talk about, dear?" Cosette shook her head for the images were still fresh in her mind. "Stay." Cosette whispered. "Don't go!" Caesar nodded. "Alright little one, I'l stay." He replied. Cosette still refused to lie back down and go to sleep. Caesar was at a loss. What could he do to assure his daughter, she was alright? An idea struck him. Lisa had done this with Cornelius, but he doubted he would be as good as her. Laying her gently back down, he covered her back up and smiled gently at her. The toddler gave him a worried glance. He soon calmed her worries by singing an old american song, You are my sunshine. Cosette smiled up at her father. "Are you alright now, Cosette?" Caesar asked. Cosette nodded. She got out from under her blanket for a second to give her father a quick hug. "Love you father!" Cosette exclaimed, getting back under the covers. Caesar chuckled. "And I love you." He replied, as he walked out of her room, leaving the girl to sleep peacefully.
*End flashback*
"My word was it that long ago?" Caesar murmured. "Yes Father, it was." Cosette replied. "You've grown a lot since then. I can't believe you'll be turning fifteen in another month," Caesar said, "Time has gone quickly. It seems it was just yesterday I found you." Cosette raised an eyebrow and grinned. "Father, you're not gonna get emotional are you? I thought that was Mother's job." Caesar opened his mouth to respond, only to realize his child was making a smart comment. Caesar chuckled. "It would do you good to watch your mouth. I can still very easily pick you up!" Cosette rolled her eyes playfully. "Uh-huh. That I doubt!" Caesar moved towards her. "Uh, Father, you know what, I take it back!" She yelped and made a run for it. Caesar smirked. No matter how old she got, as long as he was living, she'd still be his little girl.
