What Christmas Should be.
Carly woke up on Christmas morning, fresh from a dream that left her with a smile. It felt so real, both her young boys dance around with their newly opened gifts. They had managed to get everything they wanted. Six year old Steven got a little camera, and recording machine(they weren't real, but they were a way for him to be like his dad). Four year old Spencer got one of those new floating train sets. She and her husband sat on the couch just watching and rubbing her belly which was starting to show.
"One more next year," Freddie whispered in her ear.
"Can't wait, Maybe this one will be a girl,"were her last words before waking up. It's was all on her mind as she made her way down.
"Marry Christmas," Her brother and best friend told her.
"Thanks guys, Marry Christmas," She replied before she realized that the man in her dream was not with them. "Where's Freddie?"
"His Mom said he will come in a bit, right now he is out on his fire escape," the name sake for the second child informed her.
"Ok, I'm going to go talk to him." she told Spencer, before heading out the door.
"See, must be ready to tell him about the dream," Sam said smiling.
"It really is about time," Spencer said from behind the counter. It didn't take Carly long to find Freddie; he was right where they told her.
"Merry Christmas, Mr. Benson," she said, shocking Freddie almost over the ledge. It took all Carly had to help him. "Sorry."
"It's alright, Merry Christmas Carls," he managed to get out between long exasperated breaths.
"What are you doing here, Freddie?" she questioned him, not sure why he did this year after year.
"Just remembering my dad. It kind of weird but lately I have been having this dream, and it starting to make me think of him, and if I'll ever be a better father than he was," he told her.
"What was the dream like?" Her curiosity peaked.
"Don't freak out, okay?" That never led to anything good. "I have been dreaming about us, in the future we're married, and we have two kids, boys actually, and we had one more kid coming..."
"And I was hoping it was a girl." She completed his sentence in amazement. "I had the same dream, I have been all week." she told him.
"What?"
"Yeah, I was coming to tell you about it," she said as she reached for his hand.
"Yeah, it sounds so nuts but I think about it and it sounds like the perfect Christmas." he said, looking into Carly's eyes.
"I can't wait," was all Carly could say.
