Many people knew that Neji, Hinata and Hanabi were different. They were of different ages, different parents, different heights, different weights, different hair colour, different personality and just plain different in nearly everything! In fact, the only thing that most people could say, with absolute certainty, that the trio had in common were their pale eyes that signified their status of the Hyuuga Clan.
Most people would be - absolutely and certainly, mind you - wrong.
Neji, Hinata and Hanabi all had something else in common. Something small, but significant. If people would pay attention, really look at them, they would notice it.
Maybe it wasn't quite that noticeable around Neji, but Hinata and Hanabi for sure - if one truly paid attention. Neji would only openly show signs of it whenever he was around either or both of the girls. He couldn't be faulted for it really, it just wasn't something that many associated with most high ranking shinobi let alone a stiff, stoic Hyuuga male. However, even the most stoic and silent of individuals had their moments.
Despite the signs shown in Hinata and Hanabi, no one really seemed to piece it all together. Bad form for the shinobi of the village, but understandable, for the girls were Hyuuga and no one really understood that clan.
For Hinata, it usually happened after a "talk" from her father. The man would berate her senseless, tear her down near - sometimes past - tears and then leave without even dismissing her as if she wasn't worth his time. She would then stand up, calmly walk out of the room and immediately head for the kitchens.
For Hanabi, it would normally happen after every meeting or mission with her team. Honestly, she was sure it was the only thing that kept her from developing a completely un-Hyuuga-like twitch in her left eye. Her teammates were idiots and her patience had worn thin a long time ago. All she had left were the mere slivers of sanity it brought her after they had all parted ways.
For Neji, it occurred each time he saw either of his little cousins head towards the kitchens. He would pause in whatever he was doing, sigh internally to himself and follow them towards their destination. Seeing them would remind himself - in the most guilt inducing manner possible - that they were not at fault for their status, that they were still his cousins and had no influence as to what happened at the behest of his Uncle and the Clan's Elders.
Their were tons of other instances - small, yet significant ones - where it was noticeable to whoever paid attention. Unfortunately, no one ever noticed whenever the Hyuuga trio gave into their cravings for the solidified ambrosia that was chocolate. It was almost a shame, because whoever did would of had ages worth of blackmail.

It's late. I'm tired and hungry and had no intention of starting this drabble series up for another week or two, but this would not leave me alone! Damn plot bunnies!
Thank you for reading and please feel free to review! ...hint, hint.
