Disclaimer: I do not own Reza and Nadir they belong to Susan Kay. There is
nothing special about this poem other than the fact that it is my first
Reza poem. More about him or from his point of view might come later if
the inspiration hits me. But as for now I hope you enjoy this poem.

Reza's Death

I knew this day was coming
And yet I am completely unprepared
Death is a part of life
The most unprejudiced part
It takes the beautiful and the ugly
Man and woman, girl and boy
Young and old, it does not matter
I knew this day was coming
And yet I am completely unprepared

I knew this day would come
But I still wanted to stop it
My son lies before me dying
He is too weak to carry on
His body has all but given up
The fight his spirit refuses to lose
I know and he knows that his time is near
I knew this day would come
But I still wanted to stop it

I am forced to watch him fade
Just like his mother
Tears roll down my face as I tell him
I will see him again someday along with his mother
And lastly I tell him that I love him dearly
I hear him whisper, "I love you"
As his final breathe leaves his body
I am forced to watch him fade
Just like his mother

Tears come
And I can't stop them
All the months of watching
My son slowly fade into death's embrace
Have taken their toll on me
He was my only son and the last link to my wife
And in losing him I have lost a part of my soul
Tears come
And I can't stop them

I fight the hardest fight
I have ever fought
I want to give up and join my family
In death's embrace
But I have to go on
They would not want me die before my time
So I must hold on for their sake
I fight the hardest fight
I have ever fought

Please review. I think there is something missing but I'm not quite sure
what. Tell me what you think and that might help me figure it out. Thanks
for your time.
