The Whole Truth

Here's what was what everyone thought; Sam and Leah were going strong, then Sam imprinted on Emily, the relationship ended, throw in phasing and Leah's dad dying somewhere. It was a tragedy, it couldn't get any worse. It was just so sad.

And that wasn't even the whole truth.

Yeah, those were the details, but they weren't in the right order. They just didn't fit together in that way.

Here's the whole truth.

Sam and Leah were going strong, they were; and then Harry got sick. And it was like something in their relationship just broke.

What Sam had always loved about Leah was that he never had to be there for her, and okay, that sounded bad. But it's just that she was so strong, she was always okay, it wasn't like she was the girlfriend who always needed something. He wanted to be there for her, sure. But he never had to be.

So Harry is sick, and Leah changes. She becomes someone who needs reassurances, who needs a shoulder to lean on, and Sam just doesn't need that. He had that with his mother, with everyone else in his life, he was always there for them. He never complained. Leah was the one person who was his person. And then she wasn't.

He never said anything to her about it, he knew he was being a dick.

And their relationship just kind of…splintered. Not ended, he didn't want to end it or anything. He just couldn't see her in the same way.

That's a big part of the whole truth, when he imprinted on Emily, him and Leah were already in trouble. And that's when he imprinted; that was maybe the reason why he imprinted.

But he couldn't say that. What type of an asshole imprints on someone else when your girlfriend is a little clingy over the prospect of her dad dying? What type of person imprints on her fucking cousin?

He never even told Leah, as far as she knew, as far as everyone knew, he was just as much in love with Leah Clearwater when he met Emily.

But that's not the whole truth.
