La Cuer de la Mer

A/N: this is what I believe were Rose's thoughts when Cal gave her the Heart of the Ocean.

I felt the necklace closing around me, its beauty not surpassing the true meaning of it. The necklace showed to all that I was nothing more than property, like a slave to his master, so would I be - a wife to her husband. It was called "la cuer de la mer" - "the Heart of the Ocean." An ocean holds so many secrets in its dark, unyielding depths. As I gazed in the mirror at my reflection, I saw not the necklace, but death. My death. The death of my spirit, which I was sure would come as quickly as I married him. And so I could never be fond of this necklace; a necklace that held for me so much meaning, but for him only one: money. His own. And as he spoke, I felt the necklace tighten around my neck, the cold silver stinging my bare skin, the touch of his hands on my shoulders burning like fire. I had to get away. I had to get away from him, from them, from my mother, but most of all, from this world.
