So that was it. She had walked out on him. After ten years of dedicated service, and commitment. Pepper didn't like to boast but she privately hoped that her work could be considered exemplary. She had certainly more than just fulfill the minimum requirements.
But that was the problem! With Tony it was a 24/7 job, between running his company for him, trying to get him to run his company himself and then there was the running around after him, cleaning up his publicity, dealing with the women, fending off his advances and trying to remain professional. And why should she! He was her employer and if he ever touched her, she could have simply filed a harassment suit. Probably could have made a pretty good case for verbal assault as it were. He would have settled out of court, a perk of being able to afford the best lawyers, but she could have ended up with enough to retire comfortably with!
Pepper huffed about her house in a fury. She pulled off her high heels and chucked them into the cupboard by the door. She hoped on one foot, then the other, doing a sort of tribal dance down the hall as she yanked off her stockings and waded them into a ball in her hand. Reaching her bedroom she launched them into the laundry hamper from the doorway, before reaching her hands around and jerking the zipper down on her dress and wrenching it over her head. She stomped over to her desk chair and draped the dress neatly over the back. Even in her anger she was efficient and precise, the idea to just dump her clothes on the floor not even passing her mind.
She pulled on track pants and a sweatshirt, her only grubby clothes, which she only wore in the privacy of her own home, and headed to the kitchen to make herself a pot of green tea.
Leaning back on her beige couch, feet tucked up beside her and her cup of tea resting on her knees, Pepper closed her eyes and a silent tear slid down her face. She let out a little sob as tears started to fall freely onto her lap.
