Chapter One: Nancy catches a wave
If you're a half-blood and reading this, then I have some advice for you: close this book and put it down. You don't want to be a half-blood. If suffering, pain, and death aren't your sort of thing, then good for you- stop reading and walk away. You've made the smart choice. If they are, well...you're in for a long ride.
My name is Cat Armanda. I'm twelve years old and a known fugitive. This year, I was in my fifth school in six years: Merriwether Academy, which supposedly had experience with troubled kids. It was a place in upstate New York, far away from the city, with a view over the Hudson. As I'm writing this right now, five hundred-plus kids were packing, because it was the last day of school. Don't ask me why, but I was secretly excited. If I made it through the whole day, Merriwether would be the first school that I had passed.
Anyway, everything was going fine until fifth period, when we had a visitor. A girl with gnarled red hair and orange freckles across her nose came in with a teacher. " Class, this is Nancy Bobofit, a student from five years ago." the teacher explained. "She'll be staying here until the end of the day." The girl smiled crookedly and slid into the seat next to me. I hated her instantly.
Finally, it was time for lunch. Since it was a sunny day, the teachers let us loose into the playground. Nancy and her cohorts marched toward me, stepping in sync. She lowered her face next to mine. " You've been causing me and my friends some trouble today," she snarled.
Oh,crap.
All I knew was that Nancy had found out I had copied her answers on the history test. That I had hacked into her account for tech class. That I had stolen her gym clothes because I forgot mine. A million other things popped into my mind.
Nancy's cronies snickered at my horror-struck expression. They probably thought that I was scared of what Nancy would do to me, but really I was just staring, horrified, at Nancy's face. It really was too hideous to bear. There was peanut butter stuck in between her crooked teeth...
Oh, sorry, where was I? Yes, Nancy's face. She grabbed my arms and began dragging me behind the trees, into the back entrance, toward the...toward the...toilets. She grabbed my head and began to push.
Eww. Eww. I was not going into that. Especially since the previous person had forgotten to flush.
There was a violent burning in my gut. I kicked and punched, but Nancy and her friends pushed me closer...and closer...
Suddenly, I was able to move again. The toilet in the stall, like all the others, had exploded. A wave was holding Nancy up, ribbons of water twisting around her arms and legs like ropes. Her minions stood dumbstruck as Nancy slowly began to dissolve, forming bubbles and sprays of water. Unfortunately, she was still able to talk. " You freak! You rotten witch! I'll pulverize you until I can't see your face!"
"Save your breath," I snapped. A gag, made of sea foam, closed around Nancy's mouth. She stopped screaming. After a few moments, she turned into a pillar of salt and dissolved.
" Lovely," I muttered. I ran upstairs, grabbed my backpack, and raced into the wilderness.
