A/N: This is just a silly little drabble that I've had sitting on my computer for a while. I decided to post it, because it makes me feel productive. Sorry if it's crappy. :P And this is BardaxLief. Muahahahahah... I know I'm fighting a losing battle trying to beat Jarda, but a girl's gotta have something to do with her time. XD

Disclaimer: Wasn't mine yesterday, isn't mine today, and it won't be mine tomorrow.

Unexpected

Barda was never quite sure why he let it happen. Sure, it was not exactly under his control, but he should not have gone along with it all. Love was supposed to be a sudden explosion of affection, anyway. Not something that crept up on you from behind and had you well within its clutches before you even realised what was going on!

But he supposed it was too late for that. He had gone and fallen head over heels, and with the most unlikely candidate for his affection. It was typical, really, that he fell for someone who had him wrapped around their little finger. Someone who managed to blindside him every time, even when he thought he was ready for them.

He sighed, running a hand through his hair and looking over at the sleeping form next to him. He wondered if there really was someone pulling the strings, and if they thought what they were doing was funny. Because Barda was not laughing. He was in love with a hotheaded, reckless idiot half his age, and said idiot loved him back. It was a strange twist of fate.

His lover stirred, and Barda quickly stroked his hair, coaxing him back to sleep. He had been looking far too tired of late, and Barda would not have it. He wondered when he had gotten so caring, for it was not his nature to coddle people, and decided that love had made him soft.

He settled down, wrapping his arms around his lover, resigning himself to the fact that there was no escape. He was destined to be the nursemaid, it seemed. But he could hardly be angry. The thought of anyone else holding his lover like this was enough to make his blood boil. Still, he would have liked some warning of how deeply he would fall in love before he had been gone and kissed Lief.
