Broken.

Pain.

Lost.

Anger.

The words became a jumbled mess. A tangled web that could barely be picked apart. One ran into the other until it all sounded the same. Until they were no longer words, but simple sounds floating through the air.

Only one word continued to stand out in the long string…

Fallen.

------

With a deep gasp, she pulled herself into a sitting position. Pain radiated through her limbs. She barely had enough energy to pull herself to a nearby tree. As hard as she tried, sitting upright just wasn't possible. So she slumped. Her body heavy against the bark.

"Why me," she whimpered, eyes turning up to the darkened sky.

As the pain continued to sear through her, she tried to remember the moments before. Trying to explain why she had done what she had done. Trying desperately to get them to listen. Falling to her knees, prostrating herself at the feet of her superiors. All of her hope placed on the solid fact that she had done nothing wrong. She had simply tried to help.

It hadn't worked.

The condemnation hadn't missed a beat.

The small drops of blood on her lips made small tears sting her eyes. Not only could she not understand why she had been singled out, she would never know. They would never tell her. They would never help her.

Because they were the ones who had destroyed her.

She stared up to the sky as clouds formed a thicker barrier between where she was and where she had been. She tried to will a part in those clouds. A simple view. She knew they could see her even if the clouds closed tighter, but she could not see them.

"Save me," her voice cried out before her newly broken body gave out.

As the rain began to fall, the body of a fallen angel slipped back to the ground.
