Hermione swept into the Great Hall, her caramel hair billowing behind her. She glanced along the Gryffindor table until she set her sight on Ron, Harry and Ginny, completely oblivious of another pair of eyes watching her every move from the Slytherin table. Draco found it so infuriating that she didn't even look at him, not even once. He had to get her attention.
Hermione sat at next to Ron, squeezed his hand and lightly kissed him on the cheek. He turned to face her and smiled. He loved Hermione, more than she realised.
"OI! MUDBLOOD! SURELY EVEN THE WEASEL COULD DO BETTER THAN YOU" Shouted Malfoy, snickering along with his cronies. He saw Hermione go from sadness to anger in seconds, she got up from her seat. The Great Hall hushed, everybody was focused on Hermione, and if anything, it encouraged her to give the bleach boy a piece of her mind. She walked over to Malfoy, her fists balled up in pure rage. He gulped and pleadingly looked at Crabbe and Goyle for help. They had small beads of sweat forming along their upper lips and on their foreheads.
Angrily, Hermione grabbed Malfoy by the collar and held her face close to his. But then, she made a crucial mistake. One that her friends would never forgive her for. She looked into his eyes. His eyes told her everything, the premature crow's feet, depth that had seen even the devil's worse nightmares and a lost boy, turned into a man before his time. His silvery mercury orbs glistened as they met her gaze, anger was replaced by a calm knowing, that nothing would be the same. He stroked her face with a shaking hand, and brought his lips up to meet hers. His lips were softer than she thought they would be, and as they moved together in unison, Hermione remembered Ron.
She pulled away quickly, trying to ignore the hurt look on his face and turned to face her boyfriend. He was staring at her in shock, his eyes swimming. Hermione didn't know what to do; the world seemed to spin right before her.
So she ran.
