Reaper's Embrace.
AN: Sorry for the poor quality. As I write this, I'm doing it via my phone. This is my first time dealing with a completely dark undertone, and even taking a shot at the actual cannon.
Funny thing about death. Most people saw the reaper as an enemy, a person who brought your demise.
But Jaune knew better that that. The reaper was nothing more than a companion. Your guide, if you will, from this life and into whatever comes next.
So as the blonde knight felt his wounds began to go numb, his vision begin to fade, and his grip starting to weaken, Jaune knew that this was the end. He lived a short life, but longer than some. He made the best friends a guy could ask for, fell in love, and learned to move on. He avenged Pyrrha, with the help of his new team, and after this, it should be done. No more Salem, no more grimm. For the future, it looked bright
But it was a future without him.
"Jaune..."
Turning around, Jaune looked to see Ruby Rose, her ever so present crimson cloak billowing behind her, torn from the wear and tear from the battles, and her scythe gripped in her hand. With the poor lighting, Jaune could barely make out the concern in Ruby's face.
It would only be fitting, he guessed, if the first face he met as a hunter would be the last face he'd see.
"Hey Rubes..." Jaune managed to cough off, getting some of his own blood up with him "care to keep company for the last minutes of a hunter?"
Ruby's eyes saw Jaune's wounds and tears began form the pools of silver "Don't say that! Everything will be alright, just..."
Jaune gathered enough strength and placed an arm on her shoulder "Ruby... We both know that this is the end for me. Me and you have been in this game far too long. And unlike you, I've done all I can. I'm just a boy who wanted to be a hero. You, Ruby, are so much more. You are that hero. You are the hope the world needs. I'm just a socially awkward guy who's still hung up over his dead partner to give you the care you deserve."
Ruby pressed her head against his chest, ever so lightly. "You idiot... It was always supposed to be the two of us. The two leaders to reforge the world. Not me... Don't leave me... Please..."
Jaune left out a light chuckle "Don't think I can make that choice." He said pausing. "You know, I'm glad it's you who I spend this with. Weiss would have called be a dolt for getting myself killed, Yang would get mad at the world and herself, and Pyr-she would have been on the same boat I've been in these past few years. But you've always been a comforting source for me. A calm in the storm. So thank you. Thanks for letting me be your friend and goo-"
Ruby cut him off. "Don't" she quietly sobbed "don't say goodbyes. I hate goodbye"
And the knight drew his last breath as the Reaper wept.
