"Ephram?! Was it steamed milk of hot chocolate?" Ephrams dad called to him one lively morning. Ephram sauntered into the room, "Just woke up, eh son?" He said. Ephram grunted and sat on the couch. "Was it steamed milk or hot chocolate?" He grinned at Delia who was in the corner sipping a mug of hot chocolate. "What, huh?" Ephram said, "Whatever. I'm not hungry."
"It's a drink not a meal!" Delia giggled as she ran over and jumped on him. Dr. Brown looked at his watch and gaped, "Look at the time, you two need to head to school! Delia, is that your bus I hear?"
"Yes, dad." She slouched and grabbed her lunch, grinning sarcastically to her dad. Ephram shook his head and strode to his room to get changed.
He took his time and when he finally reached the high school, the doors were closed. He managed to sneak into History before Mr. Knight noticed him.
Amy shook her head at him and giggled. He smiled back and took out his text book slowly turning the pages to chapter 14, "The Early Man"
As the recess bell rang and they walked out to get fresh air, Amy mumbled to Ephram, "That was a lively lesson." Ephram laughed and followed her to her locker.
He furrowed his brow as she began to look worried. "Amy, what's wrong?" He asked curiously.
"Ephram, I need to ask you a favor." She glanced to the ground, her eyes saddened.
"Ask away." He said tranquilly as not to stir her sadness and make her angry.
"Colin isn't doing very good, and your dad is well, a very talented doctor. If he could give him some kind of surgery and talk to his parents, maybe he could help. I just need some sort of hope, okay? Help me!" Tears welled up and rushed down her face.
Ephram was surprised. "I guess, I mean, I guess I could ask him." He trailed of; this wasn't good. The bell rang and they headed to Science. The day ended dramatically and Ephram was afraid to ask his dad.
He decided to take the chance, for Amy. He winced as he smoothly strode over to him. "Hey, dad." He said sternly, "You know, um, Colin, Amy's boyfriend?"
"Yes."
"Amy told me he, isn't doing very well in the hospital.he seems very sick." He tightened his lips, not looking forward to what he was about to say.
Dr. Brown furrowed his brow, "What are you trying to say?"
"You need to do surgery on him, he may die!" Ephram cried angrily. "Whoa, whoa, settle down." He put a hand on Ephram's shoulder.
"This is very serious, son. It isn't something you can just rush into. There are risks for both sides, not doing surgery and taking actions. I need to talk to his parents. I don't think we should get involved right now." He spoke in a stern, worried tone of voice.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were scared." Ephram winced at his father and walked off.
"Wait! Ephram! I need to talk to you!"
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you I don't speak DUMB ASS!" Ephram called as he trudged into his room.
