Hey, Little Train

The door of the Slytherin girls' dormitory flew open with a loud bang as a blond girl stormed in, looking as if she was about to burst in tears every minute now. Not bothering to close the door, she threw herself onto the nearest bed and grabbed a clean white pillow to dramatically bury her face in it. The door was quietly closed by a brunette, who entered the room only mere seconds late.

"I know you saw us, Cissy."

It might have seemed like the girl, whose exaggerated sniffs were audible even through the pillow, hadn't heard that plain statement, had her body not stopped shivering for a moment. Andromeda knew her sister well enough to be used to her dramatic behavior by now. She sat down next to Narcissa, slowly stroking her silky hair.

"Ted is a nice guy. He is funny, he is clever and even you have to admit that he doesn't look so bad either."

Andromeda's voice was gentle and quiet, having a calming effect on her sister, whose forced sobs became lower and lower. Narcissa wiped off tears that weren't there and turned her head slightly to look at the other girl.

"You're fortunate Bella isn't here anymore. She would have hexed you at sight. You know that, Dromeda, don't you?" she said hesitantly, reminding awfully lot of a little child. "Why did you do that? You can never marry him. Mama and papa would never allow that."

For the first time since she had ran to the room a genuine tear fell from her eyes, apparently reminding her to start unnecessary sniffing again. That was one of the many traits that differentiated Narcissa Black from her sisters. Dramatic manners were something neither Andromeda or Bellatrix had been keen on taking after their mother, but Narcissa – she was a natural. Andromeda sighed heavily.

"This is my final year at Hogwarts and I don't think that I will return home. Don't you think it's time for us to let go of our parents' beliefs?"

"You can't do this! You don't have any gold, you don't have a job. Where are you going to stay? Papa and mama will be furious." Narcissa had sat up and was strongly clinging to her sister's right arm with both of her hands.

"Don't, Cissy," Andromeda sounded tired. "We are getting married this summer and he has already found a cozy little apartment for us. Professor Slughorn has even managed to get me a job at St. Mungo's. Please, simply be happy for me!"

"How can I be happy for you? He's a muggle-born! You will be disowned; I will never see you again. How can you do this to me?" There was a strong plea in the last words. The brunette knew well, that everything her sister had just said was completely true. She lay down on the bed. Soon enough, Narcissa followed her lead.

"Dromeda?" The voice of the younger girl was hoarse. "Do you remember that song our nanny used to sing?"

"Yes. I remember."

"Could you please sing that? I like your voice."

The room was silent, the only sound there being the soft breathing of the two girls lying on the bed. Then the brunette cleared her throat.

"Hey little train! We are all jumping on the train that goes to the Kingdom. We're happy, Ma, we're having fun and the train hasn't even left the station.

Hey, little train! Wait for me! I once was blind but now I see. Have you left a seat for me? Is that such a stretch of the imagination?

Hey little train! Wait for me! I was held in chains but now I'm free. I'm hanging in there, don't you see? In this process of elimination."
