***This is actually an idea that I've had in my nerd brain for a while now. So a few days ago, I actually wrote it out. And right now, I'm uploading it. Asgore and Toriel belong to Toby Fox, the story belongs to me, and let's roll!

Of all the people to be standing at his apartment door, Asgore was surprised to see Toriel.

"Hello, Toriel. Er, what can I do for you?" Asgore asked. "I would like to talk to you about some things that should have been discussed long ago," Toriel said solemnly.

"A... alright," Asgore said. The two sat down together on the couch.

"I came to talk about... about what happened in the Underground between us. We neve actually sat down and had a conversation about it. It's just been bothering me as of recently. I don't want to get back together with you, however. I'm with Sans now. And what did you say your girlfriend's name is?" Toriel asked.

"Nadya," Asgore said. Toriel nodded.

"Alright. Anyways, I came to talk about my behavior. I was just so... so distraught and heartbroken after the deaths of Chara and Asriel. I just snapped after they'd died, and wasn't sure of what to do," she explained.

"I was just as heartbroken as you, even though I know that I just shut down on the outside. When I declared war on the humans, that was my mouth moving before my mind in a fit of rage. Blind, blind rage. I didn't want to kill all of those little children. Their families didn't even get a closure," Asgore said. He trained his eyes forward, his grip tight on the couch cushions.

"Being honest, it's sometimes hard to forget how I acted. The guilt of every single time a child fell." He looked at Toriel, a sad smile on his face. "You're right. I am a billy-goat whelp."

Now it was Toriel's turn to feel guilty. "I'm no better, Asgore," she said.

Asgore raised an eyebrow. "Beg pardon?" he asked.

"I ran off to the Ruins in hiding. I was... I was scared for whoever would fall. Man, woman, child, any human. I knew that they were all at risk as long as you were at war with them. And I tried to protect them. But... I couldn't do it. I failed six times. Six! And I just hid like a coward, furious and grieving every time news of a child's death spread to me. I still remember their names. Do you?" she asked, her voice going soft at the last part.

Asgore nodded. "They were Jacob, Anna, Sean, Meredith, Mark, and Leah," he recalled, counting each child off on his fingers. "But Frisk came along and saved us all," Toriel said.

"They did, and for that, I'm grateful," Asgore said. Toriel nodded to agree.

They both fell silent, looking to the floor. When they looked back at each other, they said the exact same thing in perfect sync.

"I'm sorry for being a coward."

It was admittedly startling how perfect their timing was. But, it was something that needed to be said. Even though it was said decades later than it should have been.

"Can we call it a truce?" Asgore asked. "Yes. I would rather be friends than hold a grudge," Toriel said. The two shook on it, smiling.

It was then that Toriel's phone went off. She looked and saw that it was a text. So, she typed a reply and put her phone away after getting the 'sent' confirmation.

"Frisk texted me. I have to head on home. "I see. Well, I'll speak to you later," Asgore said. "Goodbye," Toriel said. Then, she was out the door.

Once the door was shut, Asgore felt a bit warmer.

He couldn't fix his past, yes. But he could certainly fix pieces of it.

***It wasn't long, but I figured it was time that Goat Mom and Goat Dad made up. Although I ship Soriel, I lowkey ship these two as well. Anyways, be sure to leave a review on the way out and I'll see you all on the way out! Bye!
