A/N: I refuse to warn about slash! It's stupid! No one warns about guy-girl kissing, so why should I warn about guy-guy kissing?! It just drives me nuts.
Disclaimer: I do not own Lord of the Flies. Believe me, if I did, Jack and Ralph would spend a lot more alone together...wiggles eyebrows in suggestive manner
BA-BOOM! The island was surrounded with the sound of the storm. It had only been a few days, but the island had already lost its appeal.
BA-BOOM! Ralph hated thunder. With each crash, he shook violently. Back home, he always ran to his parents' room when thunder sounded, and his mother would hold him until it was over. His mother wasn't on the island, so he just sat under a tree shivering.
BA-BOOM! Jack couldn't sleep. He didn't mind the thunder, but it was too loud to sleep. He stood up and walked towards the mountain.
BA-BOOOOM! Ralph sat uncontrollably shaking. He heard footsteps and tried to hide; he didn't want anyone to see him like this. BA-BOOOOOOOOOOOM! He was paralyzed just as Jack came to his tree.
"Ralph! What're you-- are you okay?" he asked upon seeing his terror stricken eyes. He sat down next to him.
BA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Ralph shrieked with fear and he instinctively reached out for Jack. Jack saw how terrified the smaller boy felt, and without a second thought, he enveloped the smaller boy in his arms. Ralph stiffened, then relaxed into the red-haired boy's embrace.
BA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Jack held Ralph tighter as he started shaking again. "It's okay. It's only a noise. It can't hurt you."
"It's so--" BA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! and Ralph hid his head against Jack's chest, whimpering.
"Shhh," Jack whispered soothingly. "I'm right here. I won't let anything hurt you." Ralph slowly stopped whimpering; he felt safe in the other boy's arms. He looked up into Jack's face, and his blue eyes were shining with something he couldn't quite place. As Jack looked into Ralph's eyes, he felt a tingling sensation climb up his spine. His eyes traveled to the smaller boy's lips, quivering at the moment, but still so pink and inviting.
As they held each other's gaze, their eyes became windows into their souls. And suddenly, Jack knew that there was only one thing to be done. He leaned down and captured Ralph's lips with his own. Ralph pulled back, surprised, while Jack turned away blushing madly and furious with himself. He felt a warm hand turn his face back to meet Ralph's gaze, and Ralph kissed him gently, but passionately.
BA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! Not even the sound of the storm could break the newfound lovers apart, and as Ralph sat in Jack's arms, he knew he would never be afraid of the thunder again.
