A Smile of Love
Wataru took off the ring and place it on the edge of the sink. He washed his face, scrubbed hard. He was slightly distracted, Kawamaru had tired him out talking about Mai, the girl he liked. Well, it was time to go to class. "Better get going if I don't want to be late", he thought. He walked off, in that instant forgetting he had left the ring behind. When he went to lunch, Kawamaru was waiting for him.
"Hey, Wataru, why so gloomy?" he asked.
"You are one to ask, after you kept me up all last night talking about Mai.", he said.
Wataru sigh as he picked up his plate. They went and sat together on an empty table. Wataru noticed his friend looking at his hand strangely.
"Um, Wataru-?" Kawamaru said hesitatingly.
"Yeah?" Wataru said his eyes following his friend's gaze. At the same time that he noticed something was missing, Kawamaru said,
"Where is your ring, Wataru?"
"Oh no, where could it be? I must have lost it.", Wataru said, alarmed. He stood up, checking his pockets; his face was as alarmed as his voice.
"Don't worry, I will help you look for It.", Kawamaru said. "Well, when is the last time you saw it?"
"I know I had it on this morning. I just can't remember where I left it.", Wataru said dejectedly, "Wait, I took it off to washed my face. Let's go, I think I left it in the restroom. " Wataru took off.
"Hey wait, what about my food?" Kawamaru said, as he too rushed out.
They looked everywhere but couldn't find it. They even searched inside the stalls, but they couldn't find anything.
"Oh well, I guess I wasn't meant to have it.", Wataru said softly.
"I guess so, but I will still help you look for it, if you want me too." Kawamaru said.
"No, that's okay." Wataru sight, as they walked back to the cafeteria.
Over the next few days he gave up on finding the ring.
...
Kazuki wondered who the ring belonged to. He was sure that the person who it belonged to would want it back. He had found it in at the sink in the underclassmen's restroom. He was looking through the pictures of the festival when he suddenly noticed that one of the freshmen there had a ring that resembled the one he had found. It was a dark-haired boy with a sweet face. Wataru Fugii, he thought, I will leave the ring at his desk and watch if it belongs to him.
Early the next morning, he went and left the ring at Wataru's desk. He watched from the sidelines, waiting for him to come.
...
Wataru couldn't believe it. The ring that be thought was lost to him forever was shining inn his desk. Wataru picked it up wonderingly, staring at it. His face lighted up with a smile as he tried it on. It must have been brought by an angel, he thought, and it fits me perfectly; I didn't gain any weight since I last had it. It's special, it was lost and now it has come back to me, he thought as he sat, his smile glowing in his face.
...
Kazuki watched Wataru as he got the ring and tried it on. He saw the smile the lighted up his face beautifully, the way he looked like an angel. It was at the moment that he knew he was forever and irrevocably in love. There was no going back now. His face lighted up with a soft smile as he watched.
