200 Characters in 200 Days: Millicent Bulstrode

Emotion Challenge: Hurt

Drabble Club: Just a little more and she would break; she knew it.

Millicent peeked out from behind the door, brushing dust off her robes. Her eyes still stung with tears.

She sunk down to the floor, closing her eyes as she buried her face in her knees.

"She's so stupid," Pansy said as she walked through the corridor. "All she does is blink her eyes in that dumb way."

"Who, Bulstrode?" another girl said.

Pansy snickered. "Who do you think? Of course I'm talking about Bulstrode."

"Yeah, she's a real idiot. And ugly, too." They both laughed as they turned into another corridor, and their voices soon became a buzz in the distance.

Why did everyone hate her so much?

Just a little more and she would break; she knew it. She'd heard enough talk about her, and none of them had been compliments.

Perhaps this was how life was going to be. Living in the shadows, letting everyone hurt her.

Millicent wiped her eyes and got up, hefting her bag onto her shoulder.

Don't let them get to you, Millie, she remembered her mother saying.

"Come on, Millie," she told herself. "You're stronger than this."

She might be hurt now, but she would show them who she really was soon.
