Gomer's Lament (a harlot's hope)

Thou hast hedged up my way with thorns

For I have played the harlot.
I have taken Thy gifts, Thy bridal gifts
Thy corn and wine, Thine oil and silver
And, decked in jewels, followed after my lovers.
With Thy silver and gold, I have built me gods
And in the scent of their incense
I have forgotten Thee.
I said, I will go after my lovers
That give me wool and flax, oil and drink
For these are my rewards.

But Thou hast hedged up my way with thorns.
Thou hast made a wall, and I cannot find my paths.
Thou hast taken again Thy gifts
And discovered my folly in the sight of my lovers.
My corn and wine is taken again; my wool and flax
That didst cover my nakedness.
My vines and fig trees are made desolate.
All my mirth has ceased
And there is none that shall deliver me from Thy hand.

Selah.

Thou hast hedged up my way with thorns
Yet, Thou wilt allure me.
Thou shalt lead me into the wilderness
And speak to my heart
And I shall forget my lovers
And the names of my gods
Thou shalt remove from my mouth.
And in that day, I shall call Thee my Husband;
I shall call Thee no more my Lord
For Thou hast betrothed me to Thee forever.
In righteousness and judgment
In lovingkindness and mercies
In faithfulness
Thou hast betrothed me to Thee forever.
And I shall know the Lord
For Thou shalt have mercy
On she who had not obtained mercy.
