Legacy
They are Their Legacy
It was a poor miscalculation on his part. Everything was a miscalculation. From the very beginning it was a mistake. His first mistakes were to bring the siblings into the house of Baskervilles. Often late at night he wondered if he left them on the roadside, keeping silence about their existence, perhaps, they would live happier than they were here. Perhaps Lacie would even live longer. Gripping his left hand close, he could somehow remember Lacie's small hand that used to hold into his. Back when she was younger.
Smiling, he pushed the thought aside.
His second mistakes were to feel care for her.
It was impossible not to care for that child despite what they said about the red eyes. Her smile brightens his world and warms him just as the sunbeam would. He loves all of her smiles, even those that chills many other. How she agreed without a second thought to his suggestion when she realized the possibility that 'the will of Abyss' wouldn't be alone anymore made him care for her more; more than what was appropriate towards someone who was about to die. It always amazed him how she seems to fear loneliness more than death.
He could remember how she whispered softly, sounding almost afraid after she found out that she was expecting, "Do you think that this child will be lonely there without a mother?"
After her 'fall' he learned to fear loneliness. Before her present in his life, he was used to loneliness, in fact he relish in it. The coldness from the solitude used to sooth him but now he was gasping for his every breath in the solitude. Without her here, he need to admit that he's lonely here.
"Revy! Look a rabbit!" the excited child called him, smiling as she proudly showed him her doodle of a rabbit.
Seeing her smiling face, he smiled back at her.
The first time he met this child of his, he was baffled. A child, who look so much like Lacie appeared before him. For the first time after Lacie's 'fall' the loneliness evaporated by the warmth of that child's laughter.
Though many might said that the experiment was the biggest mistake that he had ever made, looking at Alice's violet eyes in front him, he somehow refused to acknowledge that his child born from the experiment was a mistake. This child and her twin is their legacy. A part of him and Lacie are in them. Running his hand through her raven black locks, he smiled.
"Alice"
She is his, something that is truly his.
She is theirs.
They will never be reborn but this child will continue living in this world. In their place; for both Lacie and him.
