After an eventful first day of parenthood both Merlin and Arthur were exhausted. Merlin had dressed for bed early, put William in his cot and then as soon as her head hit the pillow she was asleep.
As exhausted as Arthur was he couldn't get to sleep. He had dressed for bed and was about to attempt to get some sleep when William started sniffling and then began making noises as if he was about to cry.
Arthur knew that Merlin was much more exhausted than him, after all she was the one how had given birth!
He walked over to Williams cot to see him staring up at the ceiling, big blue eyes full of about to be shed tears. As soon as William saw a shadow appear over him he turned his head and his sad frown was swapped for a happy smile as he recongised the person standing over him.
He kicked his feet and lifted up his arms as well as making small grunts and whines to let his father know he wanted to be held.
Arthur chuckled at his tiny son's actions and slowly picked him up, making sure he was holding him right. He hadn't held William much.
Once he was sure he was holding him right and that his son was comfortable, he began rocking William slightly, attempting to make him sleepy and maybe himself to. William however decided he wasn't comfortable in this position and went to move himself, almost slipping out of Arthur's grip as he did so.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
"Eh!" was his only reply and Arthur chuckled. He moved William so that he was resting against his chest, his tiny head tucked into his fathers neck. William let out a little sigh of contentment and closed his eyes.
Arthur smiled and kissed his sons head. He couldn't believe he was a father now, it only felt like yesterday he was a boy himself and now he was a King, a husband and a father.
Arthur blessed the day he had met Merlin.
Authors Notes:
Did one for Merlin, may as well do one for Arthur!
