the best friends you'll ever find

by mistsplash

She'll throw a teasing, smartass remark at him, and the nonchalance in her voice is so genuine that Matt almost falls for it.

He'll snap back a retort, though nearly not as clever, and Matt can hear the humor and lightheartedness in his tone.

With a sigh, Matt wonders what he does wrong. Sora never uses that tone with him, that slightly flirtatious and seductive but childish voice—that's reserved for Tai. She's never used it on anyone else, and Matt doubts she'll change that just because he's her boyfriend. He wonders what it is about Tai—his goofball personality, his boldness, his caring-but-idiotic attitude—that brings out Sora's immature side. Sometimes, Matt is jealous, but he then brushes that thought off as pure stupidity.

Tai ruffles her hair, and she doesn't get mad, she only reaches up and press that one sensitive point on his neck that only she knows about. When Matt tries it, she'll glare, pout, and tell him that she won't kiss him for the rest of the day. It's a miracle to him, but by some odd force, she doesn't realize that she lets Tai into places of her heart that are usually off-limits to everyone.

In a flurry of emotions and desperation and plain-out ridiculousness, Matt accuses them of betraying him. Tai and Sora lock eyes for a moment, faces filled with questions, before breaking out into relaxed grins and assuring Matt in every possible way that they would never do that to him. He calms somewhat, but he can't deny that his suspicions rise every now and then.

The simple fact is, Matt realizes one day, Tai and Sora share a complex friendship that virtually no one can understand, and they really are the best friends he'll ever find.

Author's Notes:

Taiora friendship - crappily portrayed, at that. Either way, reviews are love. :)
