In This Time

Disclaimer: yeah, the idea for the story & 2 characters belong to me… the others? Not so much…

Not one head was turning back as the members of SG1 ran to the safety of the Star Gate. They were being pursed by several Jaffa, but that was the least of their worries. Moments before, they had seen the beginnings of a black hole form. The planet was too close to it.

As Daniel Jackson reached the DHD, General Jack O'Neill yelled out, "Get us out of here, Daniel!"

The archeologist punched in the coordinates as a staff weapon blast narrowly missed the top of his head, "They're coming!"

"Oh, really? Ya think?" Jack spat out from the crouched position he had dived into moments before. "And I complained about not getting out more…"

Not bothering to reply, Daniel engaged the wormhole and let out a breath as it whooshed to life, "Jack!"

The older man didn't look, "Daniel go!" He glanced to his right at his 2IC and the Jaffa, crouched together fifteen feet away. "Teal'c!"

The big man nodded as he backed towards the gate as quickly he could. He continued to fire his weapon at the approaching Gou'ld army and dove into the event horizon just before a blast from the approaching army hit the gate.

"On three, Carter." Jack yelled as he yanked a grenade from his vest. He glanced over and saw her mirror his movements. "One.. two… GO!"

The pair hurled the small explosives into the oncoming army and took off for the star gate. They had almost cleared the top stair when a blast shook the Star Gate itself and propelled General Jack O'Neill and Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter through the closing event horizon.

The pair slammed into the hard metal of the ramp and rolled all the way down to the bottom. Jack looked up and came face to face with a multitude of large guns, pointed straight at him and Sam, "Whoa!"

"Don't move!" came the response from one of the gun toting soldiers.

"What do you mean, don't move?" Jack bellowed. "What the hell is going on here! Where's Daniel and Teal'c!"

The blast doors slid opened, "Daniel Jackson died five years ago."

Both Jack and Sam turned to the owner of that voice. Jack looked at him, "Kawalsky?"

Sam turned, wide-eyed to Jack, "Sir?"

General Charles Kawalsky looked down at the two officers, still crouched at the base of the ramp, "Yes, and you're both dead so excuse us for being a little bit wary."

"We're not dead, Kawalsky." Came the response from Jack.

"Yeah," Kawalsky responded. "I got that, Jack."

"But you sure as hell are," Jack shot back at him.

"Um, Sir…" Sam spoke up. "Not here, he's not."

"What?"

"General… General, I think we're in a different reality." She continued, sitting up and rubbing her bruised arm. "I'm not sure what happened, but somehow our time and this time shifted together."

Jack turned and looked at her, "I thought you had to have one of those mirrors for that, Carter."

"Apparently not, sir." Sam replied, looking squarely at Charlie Kawalsky.

"Oh, for crying out loud," Jack muttered. He looked up at the men still standing with guns drawn. "I hate to break up this little party, but would you mind not turning me into a human target board? I'd like to get up sometime this month."

Kawalsky grinned and motioned for the two to rise, "Let's get you two down to the infirmary… There's a number of tests that I'm sure the doctors are going to want to run."

Jack groaned as he and Sam followed the other man out, a couple of guards following them, "Oh, goody, cause this justcouldn't get any more fun."
