You wonder, while the two of you are fighting the demon that once called herself Alexia Ashford, what it would feel to live in a perfect world. A world where there is no such thing as the Umbrella Corporation and the only thing you and Claire have to worry about is what to have for dinner tonight and a guy called Steve Burnside isn't dead

You want to know what kind of person he was like. You get the feeling he might've driven you insane if it was you on Rockfort Island, but if your sister could stand it, maybe you could've, too.

You might've become friends with him. Best friends, even. Who knew that killing zombies together could double as a bonding experience?

You've seen Claire infatuated and obsessed before, but never in love. It's silly, but you kind of wish he was still alive mostly for your sister's sake but partly so you could've given him the speech you've been dying to give since Claire hit puberty.

If you break her heart, I'll break your legs.

But even if he is still alive, you probably wouldn't have to anyway. Claire's a tough girl. She can take care of herself.

Usually.

Right now, she looks like she is about to break, whether under the weight of her hatred or grief, you don't know but you don't want to find out. All you know is that monster in front of you is going to hell tonight.

You broke her heart so I'm going to break you, you vow.

If this was a perfect world where there was no such thing as the Umbrella Corporation and the only thing you and Claire have to worry about is what to have for dinner tonight and a guy called Steve Burnside isn't dead, you would never have had to make that promise.

But this isn't a perfect world. It's hell on earth and you always keep your word.
