Itachi had a scheme. A very idiotic scheme. One that would get him ripped- well, shaved- to pieces. If it didn't work. He hoped it worked. He REALLY hoped it worked.
That wasn't like him. He KNEW that things would work, or he didn't do them. He required that simplicity of life. That was where he and Kisame differed. Kisame liked to wing things. Itachi preferred to have them down-pat, practiced and tried and proven. He liked to have worked over every turn to be made, every tiny little detail that could possibly go wrong. That was why he didn't like this.
He had just randomly come up with it one night as he sat in his bed. It was half-formed, sketchy, and entirely dull-witted. If it didn't happen just right, then the reciprocations would be tremendous. It would ruin the partnership he had with Kisame, as well as completely destroy any trust the two would ever have. He would get a new partner, and if nobody worked out then he would be kicked out of the Akatsuki. And, since Leader couldn't afford anyone selling them out, that meant death.
But for some reason, it didn't seem real to him.
He took a deep breath. His heart thudded. Then, just like it always did when he had a plan, his mind bypassed his emotions and he was calm and assured. "Kisame." Oh, thank gods. His voice was level. Kisame turned, his usual cocky smile on his face.
"Hai, Itachi-san?" His name. His name on Kisame's lips was just so sweet. He stepped forward quickly, not giving Kisame- or himself- time to think. He grabbed the high rim of Kisame's cloak, pulling him down to his level. Since there wasn't any way that he was going to reach Kisame.
Then he finished executing his plan. He pressed his lips against Kisame's and suddenly the wall came down. His heart soared in a way that it neither had nor had wanted to before. He lost his breath, his knees went limp. It was only the buzzing of his soul in his head that generated enough power to keep him upright. His vision blurred and he swayed. Then Kisame was gone.
Itachi blinked. He watched the trees fall; something hit his back and they stopped. No, HE stopped. Kisame had caught him. He stepped up and figured his surroundings. Yes. Yes. He was stable. But Kisame was yelling at him.
He was listing off all of the things that could happen. Itachi suddenly felt so foolish, imbecilic even. Oh, how stupid he had been! "You could have been KILLED!" Kisame yelled. Itachi hung his head. "That isn't like you at all!" So Kisame knew what he was like? "You're just too precise for something like that!..."
A pause. Itachi looked up furtively.
"Just... don't do it again, Itachi." Kisame smiled at him. Itachi's heart fell. 'Don't do it again...' Kisame didn't want him. Well, he hadn't thought that he would, had he? But there had been a shred of hope, then. None now. If he had known how hard it had been, he wouldn't have done it. He would have just suffered in silence.
There was a sudden soft touch on his lips, and his eyes widened as he realized- Kisame was kissing him!
"I will."
