The Case with Immortality
"It's beautiful..." Horo walked among a field of snow. The land was as calm as she had left it; a land of sparkling silver that was perhaps even more enchanting when the moonlight shone upon it. A gust of cold wind played with her auburn hair, as if greeting her long awaited arrival.
But only nobody was here.
Her heart raced, yet it seemed to slow with each step she took. She couldn't breathe, afraid that even the slightest breath would completely shatter this already sad reality.
"It's gone...It's really all gone..."
She remembers the legend of Yoitsu's destruction...a great bear had taken everything away. She imagines her friends and family fleeing with fear while she had been out traveling the world. She imagines them searching for her, but long died away before ever reaching her. Tears clouded those red gems as she shut her eyelids, allowing them to stain her pale cheeks.
Something warm touches her hand and it pulls her to the side. She's greeted with the all too familiar scent of spices as she finds herself in a tight, warm embrace. She opens her eyes to find a pair of navy eyes. Through her tears and the snow falling around them, only his face is as clear as day. He held a solemn expression, but was comforting at the same time. Those eyes asked the same question she was wondering too.
"Where will we go from here?"
But she's far too afraid to voice this. He is a mere human, and she is Horo the Wise Wolf. He would be gone as quick as when they had first met. He would be gone as quickly as any human she had come to love. But at the same time, Horo wanted him to remain by her side just like always.
This reality was too cruel. She could never bear to allow him to love her as a man would his wife. But she could never bear to go on from here without him by her side, perhaps taking another in her place.
Horo continued to stare up into his eyes, silently begging for him to break her free from this endless, tiresome cycle.
"Save me...please."
But that wish was never granted. He only remains still in their long embrace, silently crying for her - for the both of them. "I'm so sorry..." were his only words.
She closes her eyes once again, spilling even more tears from her eyes. She continues to sob into his chest, and she's shaking so violently in her grief that it frightens even him.
There's nothing else she can do but allow darkness to engulf her...waiting once again to find herself all alone. Again.
