Mush groaned he could hear Klopman yelling at him to get up. He didn't want to get up. All he wanted were a couple more hours of sleep. Mush felt something pull on his leg. He looked down to see Boots fully dressed and smiling.
"You gotta see something that's outside." Boots said excitement in every word. Mush sighed "What is it?" "It's a surprise. Hurry up." Saying that Boots got out of Mush's bunk. Mush sighed and pulled himself to the washroom to get ready.
Five minutes later Mush walked downstairs were Boots pulled him outside. As soon as he was out he was hit by two snowballs, and Snipe Shooter and Tumbler were laughing. Mush smiled and picked up some snow for himself. The young newsies noticed and also picked up snow. Mush threw his snowball and it hit Boots face. The little newsie was surprised, but delighted. Mush was met by two snowballs.
An unknowing Jack walked outside just as a snowball was thrown at Mush, but it missed Mush and hit Jack square on the jaw. He was surprised to say the least. He looked at Mush, who was covered in snow. Jack smiled and picked up some snow. He pelted it at Tumbler. The small newsie laughed and gathered more snow. He threw it at Jack who dodged it. The newsies continued throwing snow, a couple minutes later Blink walked out, not knowing what was going on. A snowball flew past his face and hit Mush. He smiled, but started walking past them. When he was a couple yards away and everyone figured he wasn't going to join in he threw a snowball, then started running to the distribution office as snowballs came towards him.
As the rest of the newsies came they either walked by or threw one or two snowballs, then ran to the distribution center. Away from the bombardment of snowballs. Jack, Mush, Boots, Snipe Shooter, and Tumbler stayed outside for awhile longer, until Tumbler complained of being cold. You couldn't blame him he was covered in snow. The newsies went inside and changed into dry clothes.
Jack sighed "I guess we should go sell."
Mush nodded "I guess."
The five newsies walked out of the Lodging House and to the distribution center. Selling that day was pretty hard because every sensible person was inside, but there were the newsies, trying to get the few people on the streets to buy papers. Mush's good mood from the morning was long gone by the afternoon. He put his hand in his pocket, and sighed there were only a couple of coins. He still had over half of his papers left.
A couple hours later Mush had only sold a few more papers. He was hungry, tired, and cold. He had to make an important decision, eat lunch and sleep on the streets or skip lunch and sleep at the lodging house. He could only do one. He finally decided to sell as many papers as he could and see if he could afford both. And If not he'd skip lunch and sleep inside. He really didn't want to be out in the cold all night.
He continued selling for awhile then finally gave up, it was impossible to sell in this weather. He set his papers on the ground and started walking to the Lodging House. As soon as he was a couple yards away he was greeted by around twenty snowballs being flung at him. This time all the newsies were outside laughing at the now snow covered Mush. As he picked up snow he thought 'Just another day at the Lodging House.'
