His father's resolution was to save the clan. His mother's resolution was to love her sons. His brother's resolution was to kill him painfully. So what was Itachi's resolution?
Itachi stared at the wall, trying to think. What was his resolution? It was New Year's Eve, far too late to be thinking about something like this. Why WAS he thinking like this? He was a killer, a murderer, and he would kill again. Why does a murderer need a resolution?
But he wanted one anyway.
Sitting in the hotel room, watching the ball drop in New York, with five minutes to go, and still Itachi didn't know what he cared enough about to make a resolution of. Why were the others' resolutions what they were? Was it fame? Money?
No. No.
Then he found it. The answer was love.
His father wanted to save the clan out of love for his fellow Uchihas. His mother wanted to love her sons bacause she loved them enough to want to. His brother wanted to kill him because he used to love him, and was hurt by his actions. So what could he, an S-Ranked murderer, find to love?
He thought for a moment, and then got up. The ball was to hit in five, four, three... He walked into the adjoining bedroom, where his parter sat on the bed. He was looking out the window with his rare, thoughtful face.
"Kisame," Itachi said. The other turned his head. "Happy New Year."
