Kisame knew that every word Itachi spoke meant something. It was why he didn't say much. He always thought long and hard about anything said, making sure it was the best it could be. Making sure it was true. Itachi would wait a very long time to say something that was on his mind, to be sure that the feeling didn't fade before a promise was made that could not be executed.
Kisame knew that about Itachi. That was just the way he was, and honestly that was pretty fine with Kisame. He knew he could always trust his partner. He knew that whatever may be said in haste or rage would be apologized for or forgiven depending on who said it. Although times like these were rare. Then again, Itachi was rare as well.
So it took Kisame by pleasant surprise when one day Itachi said something that had been meditated over for very very long. It was obvious in his eyes, the way he acted, his stature, that this was more important and thought over than anything else he had ever said.
"Kisame, I love you."
