(A/N) I can't help it - I've just binge watched the entire six seasons of Gossip Girl for the second time and I'm so inspired to write a KC fic based on the lives of the Upper East Siders.
If you've watched Gossip Girl before, you'd know that the characters are incredibly flawed and immature, but rest assure, there will be character development as the story goes along.

Chapter 1. The Bitch is Back
Rise and Shine, Upper East Siders
Guess who was just spotted at Grand Central Station?
It looks like K is back from her trip upstate.
I wonder what Queen C will be packing in her welcoming basket, flowers or insults?
I have a feeling it's going to be a Kat-Fight.
You know you love me

"How was your summer, Care?" Bonnie asked from a level below hers on the Mets Steps. These steps represented the most prestigious clique of the Upper East Side and each girl had their own designated seat for lunch for the last two years. Sitting right at the top was Caroline Forbes, the Queen of Constance Billard School for Girls, with her friends in descending order of importance.
"I went to see my Daddy in Paris and he took me to the new Chateau that he bought. He had a room decorated just for me to visit whenever I want!" She squealed excitedly. It was no secret that Bill Forbes liked to splurge on his only daughter and despite moving to France a year ago to live with his partner, Stephen, there was no price too hefty when it came to Caroline.
Bonnie was about to respond when a simultaneous buzzing of phones came from all corners of the steps. The girls instantly knew what that meant.
"Oh my god!" Elena exclaimed, "You've got to be kidding me."
Caroline looked up from her yoghurt, "What?" The girls sat still, as if they were in shock "Give me that," she rolled her eyes.
Lexi handed over her Samsung Glyde, the same model as all of the other girls in their clique after Caroline started the trend a month ago, "It's Gossip Girl," she spoke lowly, frightened of their leader's reaction.
Caroline skimmed through the post, unable to hold back a mixture of anger, betrayal and sadness, "So it looks like Katherine is back from the dead. Just in time for Junior year"
"Didn't you know?" Elena asked. Whilst the two were cousins, she and Katherine were never close, unlike Caroline, who had been Katherine's best friends since birth. That was… until her sudden departure.
"Yeah, of course," Caroline replied quickly, trying to mask her own surprise, "of course…"
The day Katherine left without saying goodbye was the last time the two had ever spoken, and that was over a year ago, just before the beginning of Sophomore year.
"I wonder what she's doing coming back to New York. After her drug scandal last year, I'm surprised that any school would take her in," Vicki pondered out loud, looking to Caroline for answers.
"God knows, but I don't care to find out. Come on, girls, we have a party to plan," with that, she sent a text to her boyfriend, Matt, as she stood from her throne with her pack following her lead.
To Matt (12:56): I'm ready - C
Time to play dirty.
The party was in full swing to celebrate their first day of Junior year. Everyone who was anyone was in attendance, with a free flow of booze from the largest centrepiece of the room; the bar.
"So, tonight's the night, huh?" Klaus drawled from beside his best friend, Matt, "I can't believe that the two of you have practically been together since Kindergarten and you haven't sealed the deal"
Matt turned to his shot glass, "Firstly, no one says 'Seal the Deal', and secondly, Caroline…," he drifted off.
"Caroline, what? You're finally going to have sex with her, but here I find you at the bar alone, looking like you're going in for an execution?"
"I'm not," Matt said hesitantly, "It's just… do you ever get the feeling that our whole lives are planned out for us? That we're destined to become just as unhappy as our parents?"
"How philosophical, Matthew," Klaus scoffed, "That's a thought I don't ever want to consider. Whilst I will never be like Mikael, what dear old Daddy gives us are bottomless trust funds, endless parties, booze and prescription drugs. Who said anything about happiness? Now, stop talking, this is a party, not a funeral, and go find your girlfriend before somebody else does," spotting two blonde girls, Klaus took it as his cue to leave.
Her stilettos were killing her feet, but she was a woman on a mission, and a mission is not complete without the perfect outfit to go along with it. She climbed the stairs of the exclusive club, where she caught wind that the party was being held, hoping to catch a glimpse of her best friend, who had decided to ignore all of her texts and withheld her an invitation.
"Kat," she heard someone shout from behind. She turned around to come face to face with Matt Donovan, "I didn't know you would be here"
"I'm never one to miss a party," she replied, effortlessly.
"Matt, here you are," her blonde best friend came up from behind, when she spotted her, "Oh, it's you…," Caroline muttered unexcitedly.
"Care, please, we need to talk," Kat pleaded.
"Not tonight. If you'll excuse us, we're busy," she began pulling Matt away.
"How about tomorrow then? 9 o'clock for breakfast at Norma's, the usual?"
"Look, Katherine. What don't you understand? I don't want to speak to you, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. You don't get to come back after you left without a word and expect everything to be the same. You weren't invited here for a reason," Caroline lashed out, her gaze cold as she stared down at the brunette girl before her.
Without waiting for her reply, Caroline stormed off.
"I'm sorry, Kat," Matt said quietly, as he turned to follow.
She grabbed onto the sleeve of his shirt, she's nothing if not persistent, "Matt, you know why I'm back, she needs to know the truth"
Matt turned around, his eyes narrowing, "She doesn't need to know anything"
"If you don't tell her, I will" she warned, "Don't underestimate me, Donovan"
Careful, M.
The bitch is back, and she's not here to play.
Elena fidgeted with the hem of her skirt. She was on alert since the last Gossip Girl post came out. Her dear, dear cousin was back, and she knew that meant trouble.
"I never took you as one to party alone," a male voice broke her out of her reverie.
"Leave me alone, Mikaelson," she sighed, in no mood for games
"I don't think I will," he smirked, "I know what you did last summer"
Her eyes widened in shock as she turned to face him.
"What do you want, Klaus?"
Isn't that the million dollar question, E
Don't ask questions you don't want the answers to
The lights were dimmed by the time he went inside one of the club's VIP rooms. Having frequented it a few times in the past, he was familiar with the environment. In the middle was a King sized bed that would've looked grand until you saw the loose threads on the ends of the sheets. In fact, everything looked perfect, until you cared enough to pay attention to the details.
"Matt, I'm glad you came," Caroline stood up, clad in her La Perla lace. Her face was partially illuminated by the bedside candles, "I hope it's not too much, I wanted this to be special"
The feeling of unwanted dread filled his guts, as he thought about his conversation with Katherine. Caroline stepped closer and closer to him, and he couldn't help but avoid her gaze.
He was guilty and he knew it.
The feeling of wanting to run as far away from this room as possible overwhelmed him when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Wanting desperately to delay this ordeal, he checked his messages.
Elena (22:52): Matt, we need to talk. Klaus knows - E
Elena (22:55): Matt… I'm serious
Elena (23:03): Answer me
Elena (23:04): He's going to tell Caroline
Elena (23:07): I'll be waiting in the balcony.
Shit. This was the last thing he needed. Klaus may be his best friend, but he knew that he was just as devious as his girlfriend, and he attracted trouble wherever he went.
"What's wrong?" Caroline asked, playing the role of the concerned girlfriend perfectly well.
"Nothing," he said unsteadily.
She smiled briefly and began to lean towards him, placing her palm against his chest, "I'm so glad we waited, Matt, but I'm tired of waiting"
"And this doesn't have anything to do with Katherine's return?"
"What? Of course not," and if Matt were paying closer attention to her, he would've known that she was lying, "This has nothing to do with her," she clarified, trying to sound a little more convincing.
Hoping to distract him from his further questions, she held his face between her palms and kissed him. But it didn't last long, as he pushed her away as quickly as she held onto him.
"I'm sorry, Caroline, I can't do this, not right now. There's somewhere I need to be, I'm so sorry"
"What? No," she protested while he was already beginning to smooth the creases on his shirt, "Matt! What's happening? We've waited for this night for so long and you're just going to blow me off?"
"As you said, we've waited for so long, we can wait a little longer. I need to take care of this situation, I'll see you tomorrow," he said with finality as he walked out the door.
"Where's Matt?" Klaus came up from behind her with a drink in hand.
"He bailed on me," Caroline sighed dejectedly, downing the shot glass in one go, "Klaus, what's wrong with me?"
"You mean aside from your bossy personality, flair for the dramatics and scheming personality?" He teased, brushing his hand over her back.
"I'm serious, Klaus. I was standing there in my La Perla and he practically ran away," Caroline groaned.
Klaus looked at her up and down, as though imagining the scene in his head, "Let's just say, Princess, if I saw you in your lingerie, nothing would've kept me away," he smirked and walked away.
"It's Queen!" Caroline jokingly shouted after him, smiling for the first time since she last saw Matt.
Queen C spotted leaving the party sans M
Is this the beginning of the end for Upper East Side's 'It' couple?
And what does K think about it?
Rumour has it that M and K were getting cosy just before she left town
But now she's back and she has her claws sharpened
