Summary: The future's so bright he's
gotta wear shades and sun-block.
Sweating and feeling slightly stifled, Gil had to fight the urge to lay back and down and be lazy for the day. But there was no way his bedmate would let him get away with that. In fact, she was probably already up and at em' for the day. There were some days he hated aging, and other days he just plain hated the jungle, or swore he did. But then he would walk out into the sunshine and damp jungle air, take a deep breath, and remember he was here for her and their love.
He couldn't bring himself to regret it, not really. He had walked away from a job and a life that was slowly killing him. He had followed in her footsteps. And here, deep in the jungle (admittedly, with the really neat bugs), the mud, and with her, he had rediscovered himself. He had never felt so alive as when he slid into her heat or woke up in her arms. They'd had a lot to discuss; her past and his hearing just being the start, but the future has been the big topic that they were still avoiding. He couldn't help but be at peace though, they'd come to an agreement. Here and now, in the deep jungle and in the middle of somewhere not even on a map, they were content with just loving each other—and loving themselves for once as well.
They helped out in the village by day, made love by night, and Gil had never felt so full of life. It was as if he was sent back thirty years to the heyday of his youth; he was running around the jungle with just the clothes on his back (usually slicked down by sweat by midday) and his girl by his side. He never would have imagined just how much potential she had. He had known of her intelligence all those years ago, but here with just the bugs and the natives to worry about, she had come into her own. She had blossomed during these past months into the beautiful woman he had known she always could be and should have been.
Despite everything they had going for them, Gil knew the future might not be so kind. However, Gil was not counting this new way of living out too soon. He was trying a new way of doing things, of thinking—optimism was his and Sara's new best friend. They both had become so embittered from life in the past that the jungle was it for them now. Neither of them would be leaving any time soon. If ever, Gil thought to himself quietly. It was at that thought that he threw the sheets aside and was up and out of bed, not wanting to waste a moment of the sweaty and sticky day to come. He knew he had a whole new adventure waiting for him. And for once, and hopefully the rest of his life, he had someone by his side to race against the sun with.
