"One thing I don't understand about that holo-program," Commander Will Riker said to Counselor Deanna Troi as they watched the starfield streak by from the viewport in 10-Forward. "I did some digging in the Starfleet records of that time, they show that Captain Charles Tucker III retired well after the signing of the coalition treaty. The last entry in his record was a note that a certificate of death could be found filed with the Vulcan bureau of records."
Deanna nodded in agreement and Will continued, "So, not only did he not die in 2161, but died at a ripe old age on Vulcan."
"Yes, it seems historians of the time were far more interested in meticulously detailing the end of the Romlan War and then the importance of the beginning of the Federation. Not to mention in over two hundred years some records have probably gotten lost."
"True," he nodded, "a large chunk of Dr. Phlox's medical records, as well as some of the I.M.E.'s, are just… missing."
"I also suspect the programmer took some creative license in places, especially with the ending; you know, 'no great achievement without some great sacrifice', as well as the 'love denied' situation between T'Pol and Tucker," she said with a bit of condescension for such ploys. "If I had to guess, I'd say Trip was kept in a deep coma while the burns healed, but recovered, continued his career, then retired to Vulcan. Of course the romantic in me thinks there always had been something very deep and profound between him and T'Pol, that they lived the rest of his life together," she finished wistfully.
"That is rather romantic," Will agreed with his usual semi-flirtatious grin. "Still, I think I'll make a note that that particular historical holo-program is somewhat fictionalized," he said decisively.
A/N: I hope this merges well with 2Distracted's virtual seasons 5 & 6.
