Hazel Grace
I open my eyes. I feel soft grass tickling my feet and look down. I am standing in beautiful meadow covered in daisies and bees. Past that is a sparkling city, and to the right, a small town. How did I get here? Where am I? The last thing I remember was speaking to my family for the last time.
It had been a year since Gus died. And honestly, I was surprised I survived that long. The pain was almost unbearable, but I had to say something before I went. I looked at my parents, tears running down their cheeks.
"I… I love you. Don't let this ruin your life," I gasped. And then I closed my eyes for the last time on this world.
I was confused. Was… was this an afterlife? I look at myself and feel my hair cascade down my shoulders, the way it did before I had cancer. I look normal. The way I did before my death became almost certain.
And then I see him standing there in the meadow on two real legs, his handsome face staring at me. His smile lights up my world and then I can't breath. Augustus.
I let out a choked sob. Agustus. Gus. My love, my joy, my light, standing tall and strong on two legs in the middle of the meadow, his eyes alight with happiness. I run towards him, ignoring the flowers and bees. He pulls me into a long sweet kiss. I realize I'm crying. I stare at him, soaking in every detail of his handsome, no, beautiful face, and he stares into mine. He was with me now, and we would never part. The stars have aligned once again.
"Okay?" he says, brushing my hair back.
"Okay."
