Love Me?!
Sonny walked down the hall to her dressing room, bored and wishing something exciting would happen in her day.
Suddenly- she got her wish. Chad Dylan Cooper strolled around the corner and smiled- "Ah! Sonny there you are! I've been looking everywhere for you! Lets go!" he said quickly turning back around, clearly expecting her to follow.
Ummmm….did I miss something? Sonny thought.
"Wait! Chad! What-where-how- what are you talking about?" Sonny finally asked confused.
Chad stopped and wheeled back around, "Oh. Well I thought we were going out to get frozen yogurt today?" He replied.
"When…when did we decide that?" She asked, puzzled.
"Well…"Chad began "we didn't. I just figured we could hang out….?"
This time he posed a question, and Sonny relaxed, knowing she didn't forget something and wasn't planned.
Sonny Munroe liked to know everything she did every minute of everyday. She was highly disciplined with herself and her mannerisms. She couldn't stand not knowing her game plan, and plan B, and C and D if she was panicked about something.
Sonny never was one for a ton of spontaneity, but at this moment, today, she really wanted a change of pace.
So she simply- agreed. Walking after Chad she realized he was a pretty nice guy once you got to know him and he dropped his I'm-So-Awesome-I'm-Chad-Dylan-Cooper front.
Sonny jumped into his car, and once they were on the freeway and the wind in her hair, Chad started talking.
"Sonny-" he seemed to be gathering his nerve for something, they'd been friends for a while, Sonny wondered why didn't just out and say it-" I like-"
Sonny jumped in. "Can I drive?"
Chad stopped dumbfounded, he quickly regained his voice though "Um, sure."
He pulled off to a parking lot and switched drivers.
When they had re-assembled on the road, he tried again.
"Sonny…I just wanted to say I really think you're amazing, and over the past couple months I've…fallen in love with you."
Sonny, so surprised by this statement, ran the car off the road and hit a light pole.
Chad and Sonny screamed, before falling quiet. The front of the car was smashed, and smoking.
The quiet between them lay as thick as a blanket. No one moved. The silence was ringing in their ears.
Suddenly Sonny started crying from the shock and the fear. Chad, unsure of what to do, put his arms around her tentatively, before pulling her close.
"Chad!" She gasped, tears streaming down her face, "I'm so sorry! I panicked and-and-and your car!" the anguish was apparent in her voice. "I can pay you back- I can-I-I'm so sorry!" And she had a fresh torrent of tears running down her face.
She buried her face in his jacket, and he kissed the top of her head. After a minute she pulled back, to see him smiling.
"Wha-why are you smiling?" She said bewildered, the tears on her face still apparent.
Chad smiled wider. "Because you didn't say you didn't love me back." And with that- he kissed her.
She was stunned at first, but then leaned into him happily kissing him back.
When they pulled back, he said "The car doesn't matter, not even a little, the only thing that does is the amazing story we get to tell our children about how we got together."
And with that, he kissed her again.
