Fractured
The ice clicked against the glass. The amber liquid was the same shade as her eyes, she noted absently. It was a pretty color, almost gold, slightly brown. It was a beautiful color...and a beautiful distraction. She twirled the glass absently, creating a small whirlpool effect, her glazed eyes set at some distant point, unfocused, a hand holding her face up.
She wasn't usually like this; distant and quite. But the silence was blissful, it was a wonderful getaway from the city of the walking dead, from the constant threat of death; not that she cared, and it was a distraction from him. It was a getaway from Rokuro Okajima; the ex-salary man, from Rock; the... What was he again? She didn't know. She felt a throbbing pain in her temples, It was too vague for her to properly register. Where was she again?
''Revy?'' she felt a shiver run up her spine, her finger flexed and she felt her scalp prickle. Her teeth clenched and tried to ignore his voice.
''Hey Revy? You in there?'' his voice was clearer now, and she noticed something was different. She looked up at him, squinting she focused on the face trying to place it. Blinking once, reality snapped back.
''What the hell Two Hands! You sick or something?'' Eda snapped at her
''Huh?'' she felt dazed, her head throbbed and there was a slight numbness to her ears.
The blonde sighed ''I asked you something.''
''What about?'' Revy tried to sound normal, tried to sound irritated and snappy, she sure felt it. Maybe she was tired...maybe she needed a good night's sleep. Maybe she...
''Rock...'' Eda grinned, raising her glass up ''tell me the details.''
''Nothing happened Eda! And nothing is gonna happen.'' Revy sighed at the blonde's persistence. ''can you get that through your thick skull?''
''Oh c'mon Revy! Everyone knows it! Ask anyone in Roanapur, you two are the closest someone could get to a couple in this city.''
''There's nothing going on. I don't know what gave you that idea but we are just coworkers. And I don't wanna talk about him'' she gulps down the beer and slams the glass back down. ''Now bring out some real booze, this stuff's got no buzz.''
Eda grabs a bottle of rum and pours herself a large before pushing it towards Revy
''C'mon Revy, admit it, you know he cares. Everyone see's it, there's no point ignoring it.''
Her fingers clench tightly around her glass, a grin breaks across her face, doesn't reach her eyes though. Her eyes focus on Eda with an intensity that makes her wonder if she was ever really drunk.
''Does everyone KNOW that he cares, Eda?'' her voice is a careful drawl, cold, composed and smooth like honey. A voice whisper in the back of her head snake like. She catches a flash off fear in the cerulean eyes, a low chuckle leaves her lips. She stands with a fluid grace and leave the blonde without a glance or a wave. its quite again.
It's silent again. She revels in it. Because she knows what no one else does. It's a nice getaway from the world that thinks it has a hold over reality, where everything is naked for the world to see. Her cheeks hurt and she notices she hasn't stopped grinning. It's ironic really. Reminds her of something she saw on discovery once. A viper attacked a hedgehog... but it fought back. It pricked the viper over and over till the pain drove it numb and then the 'poor' rodent ate it head first...slowly. It was ironic how everyone felt glad that the rodent lived and how they felt nothing but spite for the viper, the one that killed instantly, a single strike, a single bullet. She felt for the viper. Because they refused to see the facts .Because THEY were wrong.
But she knew, she knew what reality was. The smooth voice returned and she found herself agreeing
Because you were the viper.
Yay! Dundundun! Please review.
