Mechanical Mermaids
Chpt 1….15 July 18
Post-apocalyptic au type of thing
The clear blue skies that morning were beautiful-so long as you weren't swimming away from danger the net dipped back down into the water. Whatever was trying to get him was really persistent. This time, it managed to catch onto Mathew's tail. Mathew only had time to think,' shoot' then the net was being lifted up and Mathew, of course, along with it. The net could mean only one thing. So that really begged the question, what were these humans doing here? Their Creator had said there were no humans left. Then he was lifted out of the water and Mathew's artificial gills shut automatically shut down so he could breathe through his rarely used human lungs and he looked up and met the gaze of a man with a bushy curling beard peering down into his face.
"Hey there, lassie! We saw you drowning out here a while back and have been trying to scoop you out since. It can't be healthy to stay underwater as long as you were. We actually thought ye were dead, to be honest." The man scratched his head and looked down, only seeming to take in Mathew tail then, as his eyes widened and he took a step back.
Mathew cleared his throat, activating the inbuilt vocal cords embedded within. "You do realize that I'm not a girl, right?"
The man nervously laughed, "Now I know. I also don't quite know if ye are human, but you're close enough and there's few enough of us out here. So, well, hope we didn't scare ya dragging you out. And hmm well, you're not the weirdest thing I've seen. Now that would be old Jessie from down the lane and that weird contraption she recently built from the Old City parts…" He'd mumbled and trailed off, switching to looking elsewhere, and away from Mathew's tail.
Mathew looked at the man incredulously then laughed. For being the first human aside from their Creator that he'd ever met, this man certainly had made for an interesting first introduction. And a rather curious case to bring back to the rest of his herd. Just wait until Alfred, Romano, Feli, and the others heard about this. There were humans! And, they were alive and seemingly had even more around. Now this was well worth the long swim to the coast Mathew had taken, even if it meant Arthur would be angry at him for straying away from the pod when he came back home.
Another story that I'm not too sure if you guys will be interested in or not. If anyone wants to adopt this, message and I can send the rest of what I have for it to you.
